PSU Class of 2018 Admission Decision Thread

@RyanCollegeBoard

you are correct. I worked with admissions, 2/3’s decision is SAT mostly

Accepted Penn State University Park - College of Engineering for Summer 2014.

Stats:
SAT: 1700 600CR 580M 520W
GPA: 3.55UW/3.85W
Rank: School doesn’t rank.

Subjective:
Essays: Good
Teacher Recs: None.
Counselor Rec: None.
Hook (if any): Both parents went there, both brothers currently going there.

Location/Person:
State or Country: Pennsylvania
School Type: Public
Ethnicity/Race: White
Gender: Male
Other Factors: Pretty competitive for a public school.
General Comments: I’m fine with summer but my parents want to see if Fall is possible (for saving money). Anyone know the process of doing that? Do I call the admissions office and ask if they can reconsider my application for fall? Could that potentially affect my current offer? Any help would be appreciated.

@ryancollegebound the status changed to coming days sometime this afternoon between 10am and 3:00pm

@ryancollegebound

status changed to coming days between 6:30 and 7:15 pm this evening.

My daughter’s status finally changed to coming days tonight but her pic is still Univ Park campus. Is that a good thing or don’t read in to it? She is an OOS kid.

Just checked, got my status change to “coming days” but picture change to Behrend. So does this mean I’ve been rejected or am I offered Behrend campus? I’ve already accepted admittance to another college but I am curious about this.

By the way, has anyone ever gotten a picture change but been admitted to UP?

No decision yet could mean a variety of reasons we are unaware about.

I would also like to point out that it’s seems logical for high gpa/relatively low SAT kids to have their replies later than kids with higher SAT scores. A gpa from one school can’t really be valued the same way as a gpa from another school because every high school is different in terms of competitiveness. SAT scores, on the other hand, can be universally compared with one another.

@David my picture changed too I’m praying I don’t get rejected.

Vibs what picture do you have.

Changed from the University Picture to picture of Brandywine. (Branch campus)

Brandywine was my second choice with 2 + 2.

I think I’ll call them and ask them to change it to undecided so that I might have an advantage. I’m so worried.

If I read correctly on another thread (or maybe even within this one, not sure) that all the seats for UP were already filled so if you didn’t apply early enough, if you’re accepted you will get a branch campus. Is this true?

@David0321

Not true at all. They have not filled the seats for UP. They are releasing a large batch of applications now and then more closer towards Jan 31st (for priority people). If you deserve to get into UP, you will get in.

Accepted- College of Communications

Stats:

SAT: 1700
Act: 25
SAT II: N/A
Weighted GPA: 3.57 and Unweighted GPA: 3.42
Rank: does not rank, but top 15%
Other stats: 4 APs (five offered), accelerated math, and 4/4 honors

Subjective:
Essays: Penn State has been a second home since childhood
Teacher Recs: N/A
Counselor Rec: N/A
Hook (if any): First in family to go to college

Person:
State: PA
School Type: Public Charter
Ethnicity/Race: AA (Caribbean)
Gender: Female
Other Factors: Spent a summer at UP and Abington
General Comments: over 350 hours of community service since freshman year and three school-wide leadership roles since sophomore year

@vibsOveebs
You put a second choice for a reason. If you never had any intention of going to an alternate campus, you should have left it blank. There’s really nothing you can do now but wait for the admissions decision, which you already know is more than likely going to be alternate.

I’m pretty sure putting a second choice campus was required, not optional.

@RyanCollegebound…not true at all! They publish their bubble chart for a reason. GPA and rigor of coursework is more important.

@twinmom2014 what bubble chart? I’ve never seen one mind sharing please?

@Pennst8r86 A second campus choice was not required. I did not choose a second campus and was accepted to UP.

@RyanCollegeBound It’s a little outdated (2010), but here it is: http://admissions.psu.edu/info/counselors/bubble_chart.pdf

I didn’t put up any alternate campus.
It was all or nothing for me.
