Just had the status message change to the “coming days” line. The photo is still of UP. My daughter did not apply for summer, but did apply to an alternate campus. I think she’s waaaay too nervous to look at the site herself, so I’m doing it.

Would we be seeing a Lion if she were about to be rejected?

She’s nervous because she detests the standardized tests and underperformed on them…an ACT composite of 24 and an SAT combined score of 1630 (so we didn’t even send in the SAT scores). Bu she has a 4.1 weighted and 3.9 unweighted GPA, National Honor Society, top 10 percent of her class, and is the founder/president of a major club, with plenty of other ECs and community service. Applied to the College of Agriculture very close to the Nov. 30 deadline. She reluctantly chose a back-up campus to be safe, even though no other campus other than UP has the courses she would need for her agriculture major. She’s OOS.

Can we conclude anything at this point?

Doesn’t change to the Lion until your final status is updated.

Thanks, Lulu63. I think I WON’T tell her that till we know one way or the other. She won’t be able to sleep.

My daughters page JUST this minute changed to

In the coming days

Still the UP pic but that is the only campus she applied to

Do not take this as a certain thing, but from what I’m reading and seeing the picture reflects where you will be accepted. When my status changed to the “coming days,” it unfortunately changed from UP (my first choice) to my local branch campus (my alternate choice). And when it told me I was accepted today, it was to my local branch campus.

I am hearing that people with a lion are not accepted, and many people whose pictures stay as University Park all the way through will be accepted there.

Those are just general observations, though, and I’m sure things can change.

thats not always true. i have the up pic and coming days.
and people are saying that doesnt mean your in all the time

This is correct, that’s why I made sure to said “a lot of times.” Because I’ve seen it happen a lot. But I’m sure it’s no lock.

I was accepted to PSU today, but to my local branch campus of Lehigh Valley (my alternate choice) and unfortunately not University Park (my first choice). It’s not terrible because I could commute and save money by not paying for room & board, but I really thought I was University Park-caliber.

Here are my main records:
GPA: 93/3.8 (weighted)
SAT: 1890 total (550 Reading, 640 Math, 680 Writing)
ACT: 27 composite
11 total AP or Honors courses in high school
Play baseball & golf
Several volunteer events
Job at a local business

A few other students in my grade got accepted to University Park and these students don’t have academic records that surpass mine; they have been in some of my classes and while they’re good students, they didn’t have better academics than I did.

Here is the thing: when I applied, I listed astronomy/physics as my #1 major choice (intended field of study). I think that might have had an impact on whether I got into the main campus or not. From what I’m hearing the Eberly College of Science at UP is very competitive and I’m thinking that’s a large reason why I got delegated to Lehigh Valley.

I put that down on the application because at the time that was a main interest of mine, but after researching it more and realizing it can often take 7+ years to get a degree that you can actually do something significant with, I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do anymore.

So here are my questions:

Is there any way to contact Penn State to see if I can change my intended field of study in order to get accepted to University Park?

If that were to happen and they would reevaluate my application and accept me to University Park, would I still be able to choose between UP and Lehigh Valley or am I locked into UP once they accept me there? Because after I discuss it with my family, if I decide I would want to go to Lehigh Valley to start, I would like to have that option.

Thank you for your help!

@tiffany I got into the College of Communications for Journalism on Friday. My status changed to coming days on Thursday.

@ronredd96 what were your stats and dates and stuff? i’m waiting too, still “reviewing credentials” since 10/20

@hopmayer I applied November 18th.
Gpa: 3.3
Sat: 1560
EC: A LOT. I was the sportswriter, sports broadcaster, and sports reporter for my school just to name a few.

@ronredd96 congrats! did you get accepted to the summer or fall program? i have similar stats with you and my page is also on “coming days” with a picture of UP my sat scores are on the low side (1640) and my gpa (3.4) but i participated in a lot of extracurricular activities and have a lot of volunteer hours. you think i have a good chance of getting in?

you should definitely call them up and see if you can change your major for now. you could always change it once you start the fall semester.

I have to make a correction to my SAT scores…I apologize. It was an 1850 total, not an 1890. I had the wrong score written on a piece of note paper. But I had the scores sent directly to Penn State, so they have them.

@tiffany18 I was accepted for the summer program! I’m hoping you get accepted so we can see each other next year! Keep praying!
