PSU Class of 2018 Admission Decision Thread

@Mummyof Collegian

My dd is also College of Ag as an Animal Science major

Update. Daughter did not get accepted to Architecture program offered only at UP. She would have to wait another year to reapply for this major. After talking to an admissions advisor, She chose to try once again to be admitted to PSU College of Liberal Arts. Yes, quite different than architecture but she always said criminology intrigued her. She has now been accepted to UP to the College of Liberal Arts and will start in the fall of 2014. We figure she can always try again next year for architecture if it is something that she truly wishes she would have done, but at least she isn’t wasting a year waiting, she will be at UP getting acclimated and who knows, she may have found her real calling after all! It’s a win/win situation and I am so thankful we called and talked to an advisor. I am also thankful that she had another interest in life that she could explore! Happy PensFan here :)

@pensfan Congrats! Question - did you ever consider going in undecided? They have a good program to assist the students in selecting a major/career path.

@pensfan
Did you make the call or did your daughter make the call, if I may ask.

just a quick question, does anyone know if youre required to take math classes to graduate if youre in the college of communications

@tiffany18 you are required 6 credits of (General Quantification) and one of them is Statistics. My daughter took statistics at local college over the summer and it transferred. She took one other math class and I believe that is all you need. They have a free tutoring math center too if you are worried :)

@Doberlady: Cool! My D is Animal Science as well.

From what state are you? Or in-state?

p.s. do you raise Dobermans by any chance?

Has anyone admitted RECENTLY(past week), gotten mail from UP?? Or has it all been MyPennState?!

@ronredd96
Was accepted online Monday night and received my acceptance letter in the mail today!

It’s I only been MyPennState for us. Waiting for the package in the mail to see if there’s any money.

@PSUMamasita. The original plan was for her to change her status to DUS and I was fine with that. She took the initiative to go online and research the majors that were offered to see if anything else peaked her interest. It did, criminology, and that’s when she confessed that the last few weeks she had been second guessing her choice of major and was actually a little relieved that she didn’t get in. We decided to change her major and see if she could get into UP, which the advisor didn’t seem to think she would have a problem. I didn’t see the sense in going undecided if there was another path that appealed to her. Why waste time on general classes when you can see if this path is right for her. She can always change majors after a semester or two but at least she will know for sure if it was/wasn’t for her I am very content with her decision and I think it was a smart move. She even applied to 2 other colleges for this same major which makes me think she definitely had a change of heart. She could have sent those in weeks ago.

@ronboy72 I called for her. I wasn’t sure she would ask all the questions and get all the facts like I knew I would. We went over every option available and pros and cons. They were very very helpful

ACCEPTED TO UNIVERSITY PARK FOR THE FALL :grin: with a major in International Politics! This is proof that scores and GPA’s aren’t everything! My GPA was 3.41 uw and my SAT was 1520. My essay was REALLY strong and personal, I talked about my suicide experience. And I have close to 30 extra curriculars, including being class president twice and being in 4 honor societies.

WE ARE PENN STATE!

@Tallerthanyou Congratulations!!!

just got moved to final stages coming days hope its quick hope to say we are penn state

finally heard…

"We have completed our review of your application to Penn State and are unable to offer you admission to the campus and/or major of your choice; however, if you would like to be considered for another campus or major, please call or email the Admissions office to be reviewed again.

Further information will be in the mail to you shortly in order to assist you in making further decisions about joining us at Penn State.

We look forward to hearing from you soon."

i know i probably shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up, but wow. this was a heartbreaker. I have no interest in the other campuses, and i just emailed my college coach to ask about the worth of going in as undecided.

My daughter just got accepted to UP. We are both so excited. MY D wants to major in Chinese and I think PSU would be good for her. D applied in early October and we tried our best to stay patient. I think we both checked the website at least three times a day even though we realized that the update is done only once per day. To all those that are waiting on the admission decision-- STAY PATIENT and STAY POSITIVE. If you don’t get the Fall 2014 acceptance, then go in the Summer. You are probably better of anyway getting acclimated to the University before things start “rocking and rolling” in the Fall of 2014.

Mummy- We are from NY :slight_smile: and yes to the Dobermans

Holy cow I got in, I checked after my nap. I really can’t believe it.

Summer 2014 (If I didn’t ask for this I would’ve got declined. Thank goodness I emailed)
3.8 UW/3.8 W (School doesn’t add)
Sat 1540 (I don’t even know)
Undecided
Out of state (NY)
Number 1 choice, and ultimate reach school.

My D got into UP as a psychology major. Her status changed to coming days yesterday and the decision came today in the evening. Through out this process her picture was of the UP campus and she did have Harrisburg as her second choice. She also one thing going for her and that is her Brother and Dad went there.

@hopmeyer… I am so sorry. I had my fingers crossed for you. I don’t understand the process. The decisions are all over the place.
