@PensFan Ok that makes sense. Thanks for your help.

@Jets, when I first called I waited for 10 minutes. The person who picked up and I told them my story that I wanted to switch majors. They said I could either wait behind a few callers for a admissions counselor or could swing them an email.

I personally chose to speak over the phone so that they hear you and you can actually show them your interest not through virtual text. I asked her to switch me to DUS for UP at Fall and she did it. I made a comment at the end thanking them for the second opportunity.

It will switch your status back to “coming days” and pic back to UP. No confirmation email that my major was switched and next thing I knew I was in the next day.

I’d personally say it’s worth the phone wait to speak to them one-on-one.

*i know I already made a post, but this one is more detailed.

I originally applied to the College of Earth and mineral Science at UP but I got a phone call from admissions, they wanted to talk about my options at Penn State. I was told I could either go to my alternate campus or switch to DUS and go to UP so I obviously chose the second choice. I assume they called me because I contacting them a few times explaining that I understood my stats weren’t the best but Penn State was the place for me.

good luck to everyone else!!

to those who’ve been following my PSU story… just emailed them asking to be reconsidered for DUS. i’ll be calling them after school not only to reiterate my desire/love/passion/enthusiasm/determination for PSU, but to go over the whole declaring a major process if i am to be accepted, and what their process is for all of that. hopefully this doesn’t land me a flat out rejection!

@hopmayer I am going through a similar process with the major change since I was rejected to Smeal at Univeristy Park for fall and am now trying for DUS at Univesity Park for fall. Did your status on My Penn State change yet because I sent them an email too after I called and my status still hasn’t changed?

@jets237 my daughter requested the change for DUS on Tuesday and they confirmed via email later that day. (She too, was rejected to Smeal). However, her status didn’t change until 7pm last night and the picture is now showing UP with the “upcoming days” message. When we spoke to admissions, they did say it could take up to a week. Good Luck - you will be absolutely fine! Relax! (Easier said than done, I know ;)

@hopmayer If you go in undecided it allows you to take classes in the other colleges so I think you will still be able to take classes in the field you want! Good luck! My daughter is a sophomore there now and my son just got in yesterday! We are thrilled!

Good luck hopmeyer!!!

@pazzap Thanks for the help!

@pzzap - My D was also in same boat as your D. She was given Hazelton campus for Premed, but she called and changed preference to summer and DUS and yesterday evening she got accepted in Penn State UP in DUS for summer. She is ecstatic, she already wanted to go in summer. It took 2 days only after the call and change of preference. The pic changed to UP with “Coming Days” message and yesterday evening she got accepted, so just give it 1-2 days for it to change.

@jets237 considering i emailed them and called today (friday), i don’t expect any changes before monday. end of the business week. i’ve heard it can take up to two weeks - hey, if this gets me in to the happiest school in america, take all 14 days if you must. my status has not changed, but really, i’m not expecting it too until a couple BUSINESS days go by. if not, obviously i’ll call again.

@jul247 if this works, i’ll definitely take advantage of getting all my required core classes out of the way! math, sciences, etc. crossing my fingers!!

@twinmom2014 trying to be optimistic!!!

@Hopmeyer…my daughter’s best friend applied to PSU very late. I just emailed her and told her that it looks like a lot of majors are filling up and she should email them and ask to change to undecided. By the way…we are headed to Happy Valley next Friday. No official tour. Staying at The Nittany Lion Inn. My cousin’s daughter is a tour guide there and because there is nothing going on she is giving us a personal tour. She is the reason why my daughter applied…let the brainwashing begin…not sure if it is my daughter’s dream school, but its mine for her! Not sure she gets it yet that it is such a great place. Nobody from our area ever went to PSU. Keep us posted either way and good luck!
