PSU Class of 2018 Admission Decision Thread

It should not jeopardize your admission but ask admission that question. Like a previous poster said, summer may be full already.

Just got my “coming days” status change. Super nervous…

Accepted: college of engineering
SAT: 2090
SAT IIs: Math: 680
GPA: 3.179 overall unweighted
Rank: school doesn’t rank
Other stats: school is top 40 public school
5 honors, 2 aps
marching band, track, started a club

State or Country: CA
School Type: public
Ethnicity: asian
Gender: male

Has anyone who applied for the Millennium Scholars Program heard back yet?

Has anyone ever had their campus picture NOT be University Park and gotten into University Park??

“A decision will be available as soon as one is made” is the stage before “Coming days”! My status was changed to “in coming days” yesterday and today changed to admitted! I am so happy! But one question: my applied major is Econ, but the admission letter says I am admitted to Liberal Arts (undecided). Is it “undecided” because we declare major later, not now?

@jinguiyuan - Congratulations!

Not sure of the answer to your question. Maybe Econ was full?? Call admissions just for clarification.

Anyways most, even ones accepted into their schools are not truly accepted until end of soph/ begin. of junior yr.
The only and biggest difference is that your advisor will be from Liberal Arts (undecided) until you are declared.

how hard is it for an international student to get into pennstate? I just found out that my status has changed to coming days… I have 2110 for SAT and… we dont do GPA but IB score of 37/42 and 40/45

@aaskdwqa you should have a very good chance! my stats are not as high as that…:)

anyone knows how hard it is transfer from college of liberal arts to college of science? Is it possible to double major Econ in college of liberal arts and math in college of science?

My son go accepted to PSU - University Park recently. Does anyone know when/how we will know anything about the finances etc - for example if any scholarships were given to off-set tuition etc?

Thanks

robtybrad- not unil March.

accepted to pennstate university park for college of earth & mineral sciences! now im wondering, i applied for geoscience but is it possible to change to petroleum engineering?

You don’t choose your major until soph year in EMS. It (PNGE) will also have entrance requirements soon.

My daughter just received a Provost Award for $16,000 ($2,000 per semester) upon acceptance at University Park. We are still waiting on several other school decisions. She also applied to SHC, decision due in March. Also accepted to UMD College Park.

What were scores. Oh scholarship came with acceptance. Well I dint get any then ):

Accepted into PSU’s College of Engineering–University Park for Fall 2014! (Was notified in early December.) Received the Provost Award for $16,000 over four years. (Notified early February.)

Stats:
SAT: didn’t take
ACT: 28 (Math: 25, Science: 25, English: 30, Reading: 32)
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.57 W
Rank: 1/60 (I live in a rural Oklahoman town so our graduating class is always this tiny and our school system doesn’t necessarily offer a variety of specialized courses because of our size.)
Other stats: 5 APS, 11 Honors

Subjective:
Essays: Used my common app essay, which basically just detailed what I learned from being temporarily homeless in 2005/2006; I’m a fairly good writer so I think it was a pretty good essay overall.
Teacher Recs: Strong and personal from my AP English teacher and my AP Mathematics teacher
Counselor Rec: Excellent
Hook (if any): URM, first generation college student, low income family. (I think those may count? I’m not that well versed on what qualifies as a ‘hook’, sorry.)

Location/Person:
State or Country: OK
School Type: Public, Rural (about 350 students total)
Ethnicity: African American
Gender: Female

Other Factors: I had strong ECs and an abundance of volunteer hours (helped start a school-wide food drive and then later a shoe drive along with participating in a daily tutoring program for underclassmen); additionally, I’m the president of our school’s National Honor Society, Senior Class VP, Valedictorian, and a member of our State championship Academic Bowl team.

General Comments: Likely won’t attend in the Fall (due to receiving more generous scholarships from other universities), but stoked about the mere offer!

Good job you deserve it.do you think I could get a scholarship.

I know their funding is limited so it’s hard to determine the specific details on who is likely to receive a scholarship from them or not. I didn’t expect the Provost Award because my ACT wasn’t the best. Approximately one in five students does receive a scholarship, so I think you’re a fair candidate for one given your exceptional ECs, it may just be your ACT score that holds you back some. Though, I’m still new to this site and entire process so I’d wait for someone with a better opinion to come around for a more valuable answer.

Sorry I couldn’t be of any real help! I wish you the best, though, and congratulations on your other acceptances!

Thank you p. Congrats to you too
