PSU Class of 2020 Decision Thread

Yesterday (11/21/15) I checked my account on the Penn State website and saw that I got accepted! This was around 11:30 AM

Stats:
SAT: 1880 (super scored)
GPA: 4.09 (weighted)

State: Northern Virginia
Extracurricular: Dance, on the crew team, on the newspaper in my high school

Accepted- College of Engineering

if the acceptance letter doesn’t mention summer session but you put down that you are interested in it on your application, are you still eligible for it? i really want to go for summer session before fall, but i already got into fall

Blueby: Call them! Students typically don’t regret doing the Summer Session - you make a lot of friends, it’s much easier to manage, you get ahead (and while it costs money, it means either 2 extra classes for your major when you’re a senior, or a first semester when you can just take 12-14 credits instead of 15-16 in order to focus on your classes better) and when everyone arrives in the Fall, you don’t have to deal with everything at once and you can enjoy your Fall semester.

Admitted as undecided

Stats:
ACT: 31
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.2 W
Rank: 54/507 UW, 46/507 W
Other stats: 7 AP classes and 9 Honor classes

Teacher Recs: none
Counselor Rec: none

State or Country: Illinois
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female

I applied on Oct 9 and got my decision on Nov 11 i think

has anyone who applied summer heard back yet?

@blueby1 you can call and ask them to change you to summer. We did it a couple of years ago for my son.

@blueby1 You can change to summer from a fall acceptance, but you can’t change to fall from a summer acceptance. So call admissions, you should be able to change. My D went for summer this past year and it was an amazing experience she wouldn’t trade.

@Gailbeth7719 Applied for summer, no news yet.

I know it’s early, but when Penn State goes on winter break from Dec. 18 - Jan. 11th, will no acceptances come out during those 3 weeks??

@tmperini From what I read from last years acceptance thread. They did not.

Someone tweeted PSU Admissions and got this all too familiar reply…

Has eberly college of science admitted anyone yet?

I received an acceptance letter on November 20th for UP. My GPA is a 3.7 and my super score SAT is 1800. I applied in the middle of October and was surprised to receive an acceptance letter so soon. My major is Nursing, and I am an in-state student if that helps.

Congratulations! Did you get a letter or did you see it on the portal? My D also applied for nursing, around the same time as you… 1970 SAT, 4.0, out of state… That’s probably the difference… in state first?

@BandMom339 The admission decision showed up on my portal . . . probably receiving a mailed letter in a week or two. That may be a reason since around 60% of students at UP are from PA, but not completely sure.

@BandMom339 I am from Maryland and received my decision close to 10 days ago. I know at least 6 people in my grade who have already been accepted and we all applied to different majors in different school. So, based off my experience, I don’t think they are accepting people based off in state or out of state or by major.

Hey guys!

I have a question about admissions, I’m not really sure what thread to post this in so I’ll just do it here as it seems others are doing so too. How much more does Penn State consider your GPA as opposed to your test scores? I want to major in chemical engineering, and am worried because I went to a fairly difficult high school and my GPA is not as good as I believe it would have been if I had gone to an easier school. My act score is pretty good (I think).

GPA - 3.62
ACT Score - 29
EC’s - football, basketball, lacrosse all four years of HS.
various community service (over 100 hours)
Three AP’s - chem, physics, calc (my school doesn’t really offer that many AP courses)
SAT 2’s - 730 chemistry, 680 math 2.

Based on these statistics alone, how good of a shot do you think I have of getting accepted for engineering?

Thanks!

@Mschmidt977 The website says 2/3 GPA and 1/3 test scores and other stuff.

Just read through the class of 2019 decision thread (yes, all of it) and it seems like we have a lot less “hints” than last year. No picture changing, no “coming days” message, no “you’ll know in 4-6 weeks” message. Also disappointing that the kids who applied Sept. 1 are still waiting, and some who applied in Oct/Nov already got a decision. It’s still early in the decision time frame, still my dream school so not giving up hope yet, but it shouldn’t be advertised as rolling admissions :frowning:

It IS rolling admissions. Some people are getting decisions; they’re not all released at once.
