I’m not sure the whole thing with “higher stats = faster decision” is true. I just got my acceptance yesterday and my stats are just average. GPA: 4.5 ACT:27
I sent in my penn state application December 1st and all my materials were recieved a few days later and the boxes were checked online. When do you think I will hear back from them and does applying after November 30th lessen my chances for university park? Thanks
@lucashouse Unfortunately it does lessen your chances. However, it does not diminish them, so have hope! They will not begin reviewing your application until the decisions for all of those who applied before November 30th are posted. I would say around end of February. My son received an email on Sunday (that I just saw!) that said
“Thank you for your interest in Penn State. We recently received information for you at Penn State that had different social security numbers. While your social security number is not required, it is used to match your records, and, if you apply, will be used for financial aid and tax reporting purposes. Please send a photocopy of your Social Security card to the
following address:”
So I called them and they said that his application was complete but there was just an issue with the social and they asked if I had it, which I did and gave to them. They put me on hold, came back on and said it matched and it was all set. I asked when we should expect to hear about admission and she said the end of January. Now I’m worried that this issue may have delayed his decision. I wish I asked but the woman on the phone was not friendly at all so I didn’t.
I’m sure I’m worrying for nothing. Hey, maybe it’s a good sign that they asked for it. Maybe it is the last step before acceptance
In looking back at the 2019 thread, as with this year, the majority of acceptance posts came from OOS or international, as well as the super-high stats. It was definitely after the new year that in-state acceptances started to roll out at a good pace.
My daughter got accepted today to the College of Engineering (Chemical Engineering). Her application was in and marked as complete as of Friday, Nov 20. Needless to say, she’s excited, but probably not half as much as her Dad. Thanks to everyone on the CC message boards for the updates and the pearls of wisdom, especially @naptownnittany@jihpsu, @juliacollege, @MYOS1634, and @kimba3842 – your advice and words of encouragement were worth their weight in gold!

Sorry about the awful grammar! I am on my phone. To anybody who is still waiting: I checked my portal at around 6:30AM and it wouldn’t load. When I checked again around 7:05AM, I had gotten in.
I’m not sure if I will attend, but I am super excited to have gotten accepted! GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!
It seems like there have been a ton of Engineering school acceptances, but not many Smeal. Do you think this is just a coincidence with the people that are posting on this forum or if they actually very loosely go through each of the schools one at a time(not including DUS). I’m sitting here with an application submitted first week of September, 30 ACT, and 3.89 GPA waiting to hear back from Smeal. Curious if there are any thoughts on either of the topics presented?
Has anyone been accepted to the College of Liberal Arts? I’ve seen a pretty varied range of students accepted so far but none of whom have been accepted to LA. Any insight? I’m just sitting tight at this point with the idea that no news is good news…
