PSU Class of 2021 Decision Thread

Ours sons app went in on the first of Sept. but the HS just sent his transcripts in. He is applying for Horticulture in the Ag college. He has a 1890 on his SAT’s and a 4.05 WGPA. Hoping for admission UP

Hi all!
I am a junior in high school looking to apply for fall 2017 in the early admission program. Do any of you know about this program by any chance?
Stats:
SAT: 1500 (projected)
SAT IIs: N/A
GPA: 4.3734
Rank: 9/364
Other stats: 28 ACT 12 APs including this year (four 4’s and one 5)

Subjective:
Essays: Ok…I think…wrote about passion for my major
Teacher Recs: Haven’t sent in yet
Counselor Rec: Okay…hopefully
Hook (if any): No

State or Country: Texas
School Type: public

Gender: Female

Other Factors: ?
Question: Should I just apply with my ACT score or wait for my SAT, which will be much better?

Just to confirm what jlhpsu said. My D applied the first day of admissions last year for the school of Health and Human Development. She was a 4.0 gpa with 1660 (3 part) SAT. The wait was agonizing. Again most don’t hear until Jan. We were very lucky for her to hear mid-December. She is a freshman there now and loves it.

On a side note. If you are not a fan of big schools be aware…PSU is a big school. I know what I said is well known. But, you would be amazed how many students don’t think about it and when they get there are overwhelmed. I belong to a PSU parent page on Facebook. Their was at least 4 or 5 parents who students pulled out the first week or two because they were overwhelmed by the size and amount of people. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great school and a great environment. Just be aware if that is something you can deal with.

Good luck!!!

I’m a transfer student, and my portal just changed to “Your application has been updated. Please check back soon for a status update.” So I’m guessing they are reviewing applications now. I have to wait until the end of semester to send my fall 2016 semester grades.

@lo1198 I’d say you would get in. Solid all around

I applied to industrial engineering
SAT-1340 (M-700) (R-640)
ACT 28 (M-31) (S-25) (R-31) (E-26)
Gpa- 3.85 weighted but at a prestigious school
Great extracurriculars

I kinda wish I would’ve went in DUS because I’m pretty sure I won’t get into engineering but what are my chances?

@engineer212 My stats are pretty similar to yours (3.7 Weighted, 1390 SAT), I’d say you have a decent shot

@zipbags Do you recall when HHD started accepting students last year? My daughter also applied very first day and has high GPA, class rank,is a legacy etc… Don’t recall her SAT scores but they were good, old SAT only. She has a 4.3weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted, has taken all honors courses and multiple AP courses, is ranked 10 out of approximately 400 students, is currently dual-enrolled at a local 4-year university as part of a high school scholar program, and is very active in extra-curricular activities. Two years ago her brother was accepted into engineering, with practically the same stats she has, on November 3rd. I know different colleges start accepting at different times and believe engineering is among the first. Hope HHD starts accepting before December or I may have to move out. lol Think she may go crazy waiting until December.

I applied early September because they only take about 60 architecture students…

Stats:
ACT: 34, E:35, M:29 R:36 S:35
GPA: 96
Rank: top 10%

Subjective:
Essays: Were okay. I spoke about how much I loved architecture.
Teacher Recs: N/A
Counselor Rec: N/A
Hook (if any)Wenyny to architecture camp there. First gen immigrant

Location/Person:
State or Country: PA
School Type: Public, quite big
Ethnicity: Mixed: European/Asian
Gender: Female

@PennStateAlumn92 I hope you are able to hear earlier, but be aware that many high stat kids don’t hear until January! Some will hear earlier like your son - your daughter has very good scores so she has a shot of hearing earlier. The vast majority of applicants hear in January however. So set your expectations that while she may hear earlier, hearing in January is the norm.

You can check last year’s admission thread to see when different people were admitted. Really, this thread isn’t a decision thread as much as it’s turned into a ‘chances’ thread. A new actual admission thread should be started if one hasn’t already. On a decision thread, only decisions are posted and that’s it. It makes it easier to look through them.

SAT: Didn’t take SAT, ACT 31, 32 Superscore

General Comments: Applying to Smeal and the honors college!

Today I went to check my application status and It says I need a valid username and password, but I logged in a couple days ago. Anyone else having this issue?

Does anyone know if they have sent out any acceptances to university park at all? I know I probably won’t hear until December or January… was just wondering if they had begun sending acceptances out yet

@blong1412 I have only seen acceptances for people who applied directly to a branch campus…I am really impatient (lol) and will probably not hear until December or January as well

Decisions from past threads show UP acceptances starting around now. Last year had people saying they were accepted starting Halloween. I thought some people on here would have gotten a decision by now. I am hoping to be one of the early acceptance people but you never know.

@class0f2017 Last year’s thread had acceptances around this time of people who had like a 4.0 unweighted and like 2300 on the SAT. So if last year is any indication of this year, only the really top kids will hear soon…Which really stinks for all of the people in the middle

@mdb2251 Yeah it’s definetly those with well above the 75th percentile getting decisions first. I have a 4.0 UW and 34 ACT so I think I might have the stats to hear early. I do agree that it sucks to have to wait until December/January. I wish it was true rolling like Pitt.

This year has definitely been weird with admissions. My brother and best friend attend PSU, so I went up to visit. I was talking with a lot of freshmen who said they had been admitted on Halloween who had very high stats, best friend was admitted 11/19 with average scores, amazing ECs and ended up in Honors program for business. Heard that this year we won’t hear until middle of November for UP. I’ve been waiting for months, submitted my app the day it opened, 32 ACT 3.9 GPA with tons of ECs from PA with a brother who attends, so I figure that acceptances to University Park haven’t been sent out. I do think that applicants are really going up as of recently because of the football team, though that’s just a speculation. Can’t wait to hear back!
