Application complete after mid-Jan because they lost my TOEFL score or ETS didn’t delivered it.

@my2kidsnj Please trust me jlhspu is giving you 100% accurate information. If you want to be accepted into a smal major you MUST be in DUS to start freshman year! My son did it this way after being denied direct to smeal. Whoever told you to accept into communications is not giving you the best strategic information for your child.
@sunnyjames65 Yes thank you and thankful for this forum. Honestly it is all very overwhelming and confusing. She has been switched to be considered for DUS, and I hope she is accepted. Another week of waiting…The admissions officer I spoke to, not an assistant, admitted they don’t know everything…and that they cannot necessarily advise complete specifics on each college. That was a little shocking.

Waiting who originally applied DUS will be dealt with prior to all of those now switching to DUS. Seems they cause themselves a considerable amount of avoidable shuffling with how this is done.
If you got denied to main but accepted to a branch campus and asked to be reconsidered for Dus. If you get denied from Dus as well will you still get the major you put in the beggining or would the branch campus say Dus as well?
@dpschool I understand your concern as I had the same concern 2 years ago when waiting for my daughter’s decision (that she got two years ago today!). I called admissions at that time and I tweeted at them as well to be thorough and asked this very question. They said that reconsidered applications for DUS are put after the first decisions. So if you are waiting on a decision for DUS, your decision will be made prior to them reconsidering someone else that changed their major. That is what they said anyway and I believe this to be the case. Reconsiderations based on starting semester are handled a little differently I think. But in general, those going back for reconsiderations right now will be after those currently waiting in the 1/31 pool of notifications.
@Engineer876 If you ask for reconsideration to UP for DUS, I believe your original acceptance isn’t changed in the event the reconsideration doesn’t work.
Thanks everyone for the great information. I wish we had understood how DUS worked ahead of time. I think I would have just applied that way right from the beginning. Sit and wait!
I still haven’t heard anything but the good news is there are only 4 more days left. Bless the Admissions officers. As much stress as we all have had, I can only imagine the stress they must be under to make the deadline, tough life changing decisions and all of the stress of handling calls from parents and students.
If it’s any help, I applied for Summer DUS and was accepted on Jan 11 to UP. I then called and asked to be reevaluated for Fall as I had selected Summer as my first choice. A week later I was accepted to fall. I didn’t change to DUS, I simply asked very to be reevaluated for Fall. I did that by calling Admissions.
If you’re majoring in Business I don’t know why you wouldn’t go DUS. It’s the perfect entree into PSU and after your Sophomore year you can get into SMEAL.
My son applied in September for the Smeal college of business at UP. He just got accepted to Smeal Altoona for the 2+2 program. He does not want to attend Altoona. He called today to be re evaluated as DUS and spoke with an admissions counselor who advised him to only apply DUS summer as the admission pool is so great that he probably won’t be admitted for DUS fall. I have to say that I find this so hard to believe since my sons stats are well above UPs averages. Anyone else hear this? Any further suggestions?
He got into Smeal Altoona. He wants UP. When we called, the admissions advisor advised him to be reconsidered for DUS Summer if he wants UP. The advisor said he doesn’t think my son will be accepted DUS for fall if he is reconsidered. I can’t believe that all students who are at UP undeclared have stats even higher.
@2151994 We were told at orientation for Smeal last year that 8,000 students applied directly to Smeal UP and only 900 were admitted. It is the toughest school at UP to get into.
