@tlltu5 The waiting is so hard. I remember it well! She has a good application and I think, based on previous acceptances, she should get in for summer at the least. But keep in mind Smeal is one of the most competitive majors at Penn State. She may have a better chance of avoiding summer session if she goes in undecided instead. Search the threads here…there is tons of advice on doing just that even with a Smeal ambition.
Also, PSU doesn’t consider senior year grades at all, so the 3.8 is what she will be considered with. Still, a really good GPA.
Two years ago when we were waiting, it seems interminable. I thought that decision would never change. My daughter had applied the second day the application was open and didn’t hear until January 26. It was really hard waiting - she got in for summer session and it was the best thing she did. She loved it. I’ll tell you, the wait to hear is hard - but then all of the sudden it will be August and she will be leaving for school and you will wonder how it went so quickly! Good luck - at MOST you have 2 months left. She will have a decision by Jan 31.
Thank you so much @jlhpsu. I don’t know if I can stand watching her for another 2 months, but you’re right, at least the end is in sight!
Please chance me? I’m getting very nervous. I applied for a bio major and did check yes for summer session.

@tssfbrianna You’ll be fine.
I am curious how some of you respond with, you will be fine; you will definitely get in, etc. How do you know this? Are you PSU admissions reps?
i don’t think anyone here is
@yogisandy http://admissions.psu.edu/apply/statistics/ and also http://budget.psu.edu/CDSRedesign/cds.aspx?reportindicator=FreshAdmn&Location=UP&AY=20152016
Of course no one can say 100% for sure if someone will get accepted or not, but PSU takes GPA in to account as 2/3 of your application and SAT/other stuff as 1/3, so it’s generally easy to predict if someone will get accepted or not unless they are borderline. You can also take a look at the previous decisions threads and see what kind of stats people were accepted with.
Thank you; makes sense!
@yogisandy No one here is an admissions rep. The chance threads are opinions only. That being said, some of us have been on here for years and have seen the trends on who gets in and who doesn’t. Sometimes it’s pretty clear that the educated guess that someone will get deferred to a branch campus is a high likelihood. that being said, I’ve seen lots of anomalies over the years with admissions. There are no guarantees on either end. But sometimes, the odds are more in someone’s favor than at others.
This is also supposed to be a decisions thread. You should start your own thread if you want to be chanced.
There has been numerous people asking to be chanced…
Yes, that is my point. This type of thread is supposed to focus on results so that students in future years can easily look back and see what type of students got admitted and when. Asking to be chanced just clutters up the thread. There is a whole sub-forum on this website for Chances.
Has anyone heard back for main campus??
@chiz0921 Many of the students at my sons school has heard back. They were engineering and very high stats. My son has not heard back yet though. I think alot of engineering students hear first because psu is competing for top students and want them to commit early.
@chiz0921 At Penn State, it all depends on what school you are applying to. As @mainlinemom mentioned, engineering students tend to hear back the earliest, followed by Smeal and College of Arts. I’ve found that Eberly students hear back last, and it depends on your stats as well. Decisions will really start to roll out starting Thursday, since the priority deadline has passed and they will start to get a better feel of the applicant pool. PSU knows that they are going to accept people with 35 ACT and 4.0 GPAs no matter who else applies, so they hear back first.
4.0 and 34 applying for Smeal, applied very early October so hoping to hear back soon!
Ok so basically Im gonna post my stats and u all can tell me I suck.
UW gpa: 3.64 (8 AP classes taken, including 4 this year, 3 last year, and 1 sophomore year)
SAT: 1870 old (650 M, 620 CR, 600 W), 1270 New (680 M, and 590 (major disaster, Idk what happened to be honest, very weird that I did better on the old SAT verbal then the new one since the scores for the new are supposed to be inflated).
Class Rank: School only does deciles, in the 2nd decile, so top 20%.
Oh yeah and I’m from PA, public school with about 320 kids, and I’m a white male, as you can probably tell from my username on here. Also I applied for engineering, and applied on October 9th.
And I’m asking to be chanced and also when I should expect to hear back by…
Chances for PSU UP?
SAT: 1140/1600
GPA: 3.57
Location/Person:
State or Country:In state, PA
School Type: Public
Other Factors: Dad went to PSU and sister is at Altoona currently
General Comments: Applied middle of October
Also Applied undecided and would do summer session, if offered.
I feel like it is unlikely to get into UP, but could I get in if I did the summer session?
@veryconfusedsenior611 and @averagewhiteguy this is a decisions thread, not a chances one. Start a new thread if you wish to be chanced.
