PSU Class of 2022 Decision Thread

so then why did some people automatically get into the branch campus they applied to as a secondary choice instead of university park?? @bodangles

Are you sure you picked a branch campus as a second choice on your app? If so I have no idea. You could maybe ask them that when you email admissions with your choice.

Just found out my son was offered admission for Fall 2018 at UP. Division of Undergraduate Studies.

4.05 GPA
1400 SAT
9 Hn
5 AP
Public school with good reputation in Western PA.
Applied 9/5/2017. Changed to under review the week before Thanksgiving.

The wait was worth it!!! WE ARE!

As a side note, my daughter applied in September 2014 and was admitted on Halloween 2014. Her stats were good, but not as good as my son’s. So, it does seem that its random.

@pennplz what were your stats? Best of luck to you

GPA: 3.7
SAT: 1330
Full IB Diploma @pct3

@bodangles yeah I did, that’s why I’m concerned : (

You could even call tomorrow and ask? Might get a faster response.

for sure, thanks so much for your repsonses! @bodangles

Just found out my son was accepted to University Park DUS for Fall 2018! Applied 9/6/17, went under review 12/12/17.
GPA - 3.75
WGPA - 4.1
SAT - 1350
6 - AP Classes
12 - Honors Classes
Rank - top 20% - large Public HS in SE PA

Good luck to all those still waiting. It’s been so nerve wracking since the acceptance process does seem so random! At least 1/31 is less than 2 weeks away!!

Thank you for applying to Penn State. We have carefully evaluated your academic credentials, and although we cannot offer you admission to the Mary Jean and Frank P. Smeal College of Business with the intended major of Business Administration (Pre-Major) at Penn State University Park, there are other educational opportunities that await you at Penn State.

Due to limitations on the size of the first-year class at University Park and the exceptionally high caliber of recent applicants, it is inevitable that many good students who demonstrate academic success are referred to start their education at another Penn State campus as part of the 2+2 plan. In fact, this is the most common path to a Penn State degree; more than half of our students spend their first two years at a Commonwealth campus. At the end of their second year, students can choose to transition to University Park to complete their studies without reapplying for admission.

Please visit admissions.psu.edu/campuses to learn more about the unique aspects of each Penn State campus. I hope you will carefully consider which of these campuses may be right for you and contact the admissions staff at that campus or email us at admissions@psu.edu to learn more about your options. I encourage you to call the campus directly if you have any questions. It is important to note that some campuses have limited on-campus housing, so please contact the campuses that interest you as soon as possible.

We will not take any further action on your application until we hear from you.

A great Penn State education is still available to you. Although it may not start out as you had originally planned, I hope you will consider the opportunity to earn a Penn State degree and enjoy the lifetime of benefits it brings. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

what does this mean

It means you need to call admissions. Make sure you say you were told to call; I imagine call volume is pretty heavy this time of year and you don’t want to wait around.

Brother attends Penn State so this was an exciting one for my son to get. He is happy and relieved as he applied 10/9 and went “under review” just before Christmas and has been checking the portal often!

You appear to know the most about PSU’s admission process. Does PSU let kids know if they are rejected as soon as they make that determination, or will a flood of rejections go out on the 31st. My son, whose scores are boarder line middle 50%, has not yet received a rejection, and his application switched to under review back in Dec. Do your odds go up for acceptance the closer you get to the 31st? Thanks for your input.
