My daughter was not accepted to PSU at UP with an undeclared major in School of Science and she declined being considered for the Summer Program. She regrets that now and we are wondering if anyone has experience with going back to PSU admissions to change major and also request Summer Program in hopes of being considered for admittance.
^ Last year it seemed like everyone went back to get reconsidered for DUS and/or summer! So it’s not uncommon to do. Chances will be hard to determine – all depends on how many spaces they have left. She could also request to be evaluated for a branch campus like Altoona if she wanted.
In-state
3.9 Weighted GPA

Special Education major
Great extracurriculars, awesome teacher recs
Applied 10/18, has not heard back… good or bad sign?
Additionally, when are summer session decisions released?
@riverb It doesn’t hurt to call admissions today and ask if it would make a difference if she changed to the summer start.
@MYOS1634 He has applied as a biology major to all 17 universities that he applied to because his plan is to go into either optometry or ophthalmology. He did his internship this summer at his optometrist’s office.
When we visited six universities in June, one that we visited was University of Delaware. We visited all the different universities that his education consultant that he’s been working with for two years suggested would fit his academics as well as his personality…. While both my husband and I loved the campus and really liked what they had to say in the information session, my son for whatever reason did not like the look of the campus and had no interest in applying there.
The reason why he applied and got an admissions letter from University New Hampshire although he really has no interest since we never got a chance to see it yet… Is because they have a very good optometry program.
Yes financially my husband is a partner of his CPA firm, so he started the 529 for my son when he was 15 months old and we are totally set on any university that he would ever want to go to. Even those that are so far out of reach for him that he doesn’t even think about them… We would have the money to send him to those types of universities as well. So we are good financially wherever he wants to go. At this point he is done. He has already told his guidance counselor, us and his consultant that he does not want to apply to any others. He knows that he got into Goucher College and University of New Hampshire. So he’s comfortable with what he has done so far and where he has been admitted into so far… So we’re not gonna push him anymore. He knows that there are others out there with rolling admissions that he could apply to if he wants to but he is choosing not to.
Does anyone know if PSU releases their decisions at specific times? Or is it just random?
Based on everything in this thread – its done at midnight - once a day…although I keep checking during the day!
@Andreq , the Penn State campus in Erie has a 3+4 program for Optometry: http://behrend.psu.edu/school-of-science/academic-programs-1/pre-health-professions/programs/accelerated-program-in-optometry.
@Sophley Ugh seriously? You know… Because my husband is from Philadelphia and both of his cousins graduated from Penn State one started out at the Altoona campus and transferred the other all four years at University Park… My son did this application with my husband. I’m thinking probably because my husband was so caught up between the two campuses because of his own family that had graduated… He may not have even looked at the other choices and I know my son probably would not have even looked at the branch campuses at all without my husband. I’m assuming they didn’t even know that one of the campuses within Penn State have an optometry program. Well that just sucks now.
^ If he’s admitted to Altoona, he can ask if it could be reconsidered for Erie. However he wouldn’t get into the accelerated program.

If he’s admitted to UP, he should consider staying there.
In addition, if he’s not admitted to UP for Biology, he can be reconsidered for Immunology&Infectious Diseases or BioBehavioral Health. Note that BBH participates in the “Schreyer Gateway” program that allows strong freshmen to apply to the tp-ranked Honors College.

Received snail mail acceptance packet today (1/22). Online status changed to accepted for finance Smeal on 1/18.
I got accepted for Fall 2018.
Did your acceptance come in mail before posting online?
Congrats. Did yours post online today later in the day?
if you check the summer option and fall, you will first be considered for fall. If they can’t offer you fall, they will then consider you for summer.
This is a good place to say that if you are offered summer, ONLY serious extenuating circumstances will allow you to be reconsidered for fall. Illness, chance to work somewhere fabulous related to your career goals. But not vacation, family traditions, or how close a summer start is to a hs graduation. In general reconsideration has to be based in something new or compelling, not just “but I wanted something else”
@BreakfastClub1 @mackintoshm : please post GPA, SAT score, #AP+Honors, major applied to, so that the information can be useful to readers.
Anyone know majors that you can transfer from a branch to University park after first year? Heard astronomy majors can transfer after first year and heard something similar with architectural engineering? Anyone know
