PSU Class of 2022 Decision Thread

Son accepted liberal arts summer. Portal down yesterday with no pic change then went back to “All info complete decision will be posted when made” bla bla bla… this morning around 7 portal had same error… checked after 10 and decision was there. I am happy that he can join my current JD…
SAT 1270 one sitting
GPA 4.0W
Honors and AP classes including calc
In state
He applied directly to summer since my daughter loved it so much
Good luck to everyone still waiting

@thinkofalogin Keep in mind at Penn State, NO ONE is directly admitted to any major except for a very few like Nursing and Golf Course Management. For the rest of the majors, you have to complete entry to major requirements to get into the major. You can complete those for Smeal either in DUS or in pre major status at Smeal. Even if your daughter got into Smeal - she wasn’t really “in”. She would be pre major.

@croutontwan My nephew was accepted yesterday for aerospace engineering for fall 2018. I’m not sure of his GPA but I know it was over a 4.0 with high SAT and he also earned a perfect 5 on his AP chem test.

Hey guys. I’m an international student. Applied to Smeal on 12/5.
My stats are :
SAT - 1320 (610W- 710M)
Class rank - 1/30
We don’t have a GPA
Predicted marks - 92.8/100
My portal still shows penn state is currently receiving…
when can I expect to get my decision? Also, when is the next wave? Thanks!

Son’s portal updated some time today. Was under review since some time in October. He applied as a Mathematics major. Was not admitted to UP- was offered the 2+2 program.
3.7 W GPA
1400 SAT (700/700)
All honors and AP classes.

Most likely not attending.

Good luck everyone still waiting!

@Nealthakker Same here!! But, I applied to the school of communications. mine isn’t even under review right now which was scaring me but I think as international students we find out last, I guess. At least someone is in the same position as me. Good luck!!

If anyone hears back for nursing, please let me know! I’m very anxious.

Uh oh… Do you know if AE competitive by chance? @jlhpsu

Does anyone know the cost of summer session for an out of state student?

And I want to do summer session at University Park. Do I have the option to make that happen?

I’ve already been accepted at university park Journalism pre-major (stats 3.91 GPA, 1320 SAT, 4 APs and pretty good ECs) but when I logged in to check my portal for fin aid I got the message “Your application record is currently being updated. Please logout and return to your MyPennState profile in a few minutes to see your updated application information.” does anyone know why this is happening?

How do you know the decision is there? Is there a link? or does the whole page change?

The whole page changes.

Anyone ever heard of anyone having luck reapplying for University Park after receiving the invite for 2nd choice Altoona? We have an email into admissions asking about revised major as well as being open to attending the summer program. If so - any advice greatly appreciated.

Have anyone gotten the acceptance for architecture?

@NursingMan I haven’t heard back for nursing yet either!

Yes. It changed to accepted about noon for my son.
Good luck!

@riverb It works for some but a lot of the time, it does not work. What major did you apply for initially, what major did you change to and what are the stats? That will help people here answer your question as success varies greatly depending on major and stats.

@croutontwan I have no idea how competitive AE is specifically, but engineering in general is the second hardest college to get into at PSU (with Smeal being the first). My nephew was a very competitive applicant, but I’m not sure if he was the norm. If you applied by November 30, you will hear soon!!

Just an unsolicited observation from a few data points I’m seeing on this thread.

Academic rigor does matter, perhaps alot. Kids with lower GPA’s and SAT’S but 10-12-15+ AP and Honors are getting in over what otherwise look to be very qualified candidates. I realize I’m not normalizing for the particular program being applied to, but it seems like a little bit of a trend

Also, I’ve wondered out loud before if the HS you go to matters - maybe not explicitly, but perhaps in how PSU re-calculates your GPA.

Just some thoughts.

Guys I am freaking out. I got into Penn State UP summer 2018 DUS but on the portal it says “your application information is being updated” what does that mean omg

@croutontwan My son applied for Industrial Engineering in September. He has been under review since November. Maybe they are just taking longer with Engineering?
