Isn’t cw8220 saying she got rejected from Smeal UP and got accepted instead to a 2+2?
@JSchoolorbust- yes that is what I meant, guess I wasn’t very clear. well now that PSU is a no go I’m just waiting on maryland lehigh and holy cross
^^^ CW82200, If PSU is your #1 pick, you could call admissions and ask to be reconsidered for DUS & willing to start Summer. That might help with starting at UP. And changing to DUS wouldnt risk entering into Smeal later.
@Jhp1599 Well we were starting to believe perhaps my son had been rejected and therefore was refusing to show us the application portal. And therefore he just kept saying, “it says it’s still under review.” However he has been honest because he sent us a picture of the portal this morning and as a biology major his is still under review.
I applied to Penn State in Late Sept/Early Oct… still waiting to hear back with my application being under review for over a month…

Any hopes? Only 6 days left until the 31st and I’m getting nervous! PSU UP is my top choice!
@andreq: have him think about the other majors I indicated. Biology may well be full already.
@misspat17 : if you got into Ohio University, go there - it’s not worth it for you to come from California to Altoona. It’s one of the residential branches but it’s just like a CSU, think Northridge perhaps, but in the mountains and industrial.
My son showed us his portal this morning and it is still showing that his application is under review. He applied as a biology major. He like most put down University Park as his first choice and since we are in Southern California he didn’t know anything about the other campuses and so therefore he just chose Altoona as his back up branch.
@cw82200 A 3.89 GPA and a 30 ACT is nowhere near a shoe in for Smeal. Smeal only usually accepts about 11% of their applicants in any given year. Don’t compare your GPA to others as they are all calculated differently. The only real way to know why you didn’t get in is to call admissions, but truthfully, those are borderline stats for Smeal at UP.
@Andreq…still waiting as well. We’ve communicated on the Facebook thread (son applied to Athletic Training). Still under review, ugh!
@Cw82200 - ok, I thought you were declined admission to the 2+2 - that seemed impossible.
Honestly, I would lighten up a bit concerning your son’s lack of openness and response to your inquiry. Obviously, you know his personality, but he may have a lot of hope invested in the school and is suffering the same anxiety as you or, if he was denied, he may be experiencing great disappointment that he’d prefer not to share at this time. Stay positive and reinforce the message that, should denial occur, there are a million options and it all works out in the end. As previously mentioned, my daughter is also a bio applicant and, for what it’s worth, she too has yet to received word. Though PSU is her first choice, I will tell her to refocus and not to lose sleep should she ultimately be denied.
@nutmeger12031999 are all of the bio majors still waiting?
@aja1011 My son was accepted as a bio major last week.

@caveatesq My son as of this morning meaning at 11:30 AM our time here in California checked and as a biology major his still says under review.
@soccermom22 Hi!!! And…Ugh!
@andreq mine too! its so stressful, hopefully we will hear back soon! Good luck to your son!
I have no idea where the bio decisions are falling. I check the psu page once or twice a day as well as this site now and again for a little insight. The loving and dedicated academic encouragement we all invested spans 12 years and, with respect to undergraduate admission decisions, pretty much ended when we hit the application send buttons. You’re all rightfully proud of your child’s accomplishments and the stresses are currently running high. I plan to chill a bit… a glass or two of red wine never hurts either!
@MYOS1634 Yes, I know what you had mentioned about a different major but my son is very stubborn and also immature… He will not change. Plus for us financially it doesn’t matter. We have known since 10th grade that his dream was always to go to school on the East Coast. So it doesn’t matter. My husband is a partner of a CPA firm here in Los Angeles, And from the time my son was 15 months old my husband opened up a 529 plan and has been putting a set amount of money away each month. We are good for wherever he wanted to go even if he were a completely different student and wanted to go to an Ivy League we are totally OK with that as well. So if he chose to go to a branch campus that would be fine. Oh and both my husband and I graduated from Cal State University Northridge. It’s about 20 minutes away from our house. He applied to seven of the Cal states and five of the UC‘s. Only because we enforced it as a back up. But we know in his heart he will be going to one of the universities that he was admitted to on the East Coast. And no he did not get into Ohio State at this point… He finally received a notification from them reminding him that he needed to submit which he knew, his test scores to them. He knows they are very low… Quite low so that’s why After he submitted his application and not to the last second on December 29, he realized he probably has no chance and therefore didn’t want to even further as he said embarrass himself by submitting his scores. We do not know whether he has ended up submitting them or not at this point. He knows he was admitted into Goucher College which he saw over the summer and really liked and he was also admitted into University of New Hampshire which he still has not had a chance to say. He was deferred from Drexel University which he is very much interested in because of the co-op program. The UC campuses and the Cal States he will not hear from until late February or into March.
