PSU Class of 2022 Decision Thread

Applied October 24.

Still haven’t heard back and I’m officially very worried:(

Me too… Looking back at last year thread, it looks like engineering students find out last. I’m guessing they take all students who applied before Nov 30 and split them up into colleges. Then one by one they go through the colleges. It seems that engineering is the last college they look at… correct me if I’m wrong!

@kaelen My D applied to nursing as well with very similar stats. She has not heard yet either from UP! Little worried because UP’s nusring program is so competitive.

Post #35 on this thread (Nov 16) was an admission to engineering at UP. I’m pretty sure when I applied back in 2013-14 I heard before Christmas too.

It’s a process without a lot of transparency. We really don’t know exactly how they do it and we probably will never know.

@ccs0623,@kaelen, my daughter is in the same boat with somewhat similar stats. Still waiting for nursing. 28 ACT, 3.92WGPA. All AP and honors,NHS lots of EC.
She got in to PITT and everyone keeps telling me if she got in there she will get in at PSU…but with each passing day it makes her more and more nervous. Me as well. Only good thing is I haven’t seen many nursing acceptances here. Hopefully there’s a wave of them on Tues. Good luck and don’t stress as you’re not alone:)

@kaelen and @ccs0623 I posted my daughter’s acceptance to nursing UP and stats on page 19 (#271) … I hope this helps! Hang in there and dont lose faith!

@thebigD1001 I certainly understand weighted vs. unweighted GPA (or the “multiplier” as you call it). Go back and look at the acceptances to UP. I don’t know if many with a 3.1 unweighted (without the multiplier) are getting in. I see lots of kids with 4.5’s and higher (weighted) getting in…

As I’ve said before, college is a challenge for even the best students. You will have a higher chance of success if you start at a branch. Penn State’s 2+2 isn’t for everyone - find your niche and be successful!

My daughter got her acceptance to Smeal this morning.

GPA: 3.6 UW, 3.95 Weighted
ACT: 33
EC: Tennis and Cross-country, leadership, volunteer

Good luck to everyone. This process is incredibly stressful.

I have been accepted to University Park for Summer 2018 for biology.

GPA: 4.16/4.0
Rank: 8/150
SAT: 1220 (11260 superscore)
EC: Marching band, NHS, and softball
I have taken many honors and advanced classes. I have not taken any AP classes because my school offers 2 AP’s. I have received A’s in almost every class.

I was wondering if I should be re-evaluated for Fall. I am glad the I have been accepted to UP, but I have seen people with much lower stats get in for fall.

Accepted last week into Smeal Business School. Out of state. UW GPA 3.64. ACT 29 composite 31 superscore. 4 AP’s and mostly honors classes. 3 sport varsity athlete with many academic extracurricular activities. Best of luck to people still waiting to hear back.

Omg!!! We don’t know what to do considering we are in Southern California. He just looked and he got in! Except… He not only did not get into University Park, he also did not get into his second choice which was the branch campus of Altoona. Instead he got into the Eberly campus in their premed section called Fayette Program. It looks like a tiny tiny campus. And it doesn’t even look like that they have housing which would not work for a freshman coming from across the country. How can he ask if he can switch to at least Altoona which I hear has housing but I’m not sure if Altoona even has a premed program? Or does anybody know about this particular campus called Eberly? @MYOS1634 you seem to be filled with good advice and insight. I told you that for us money for him attending a university is not an issue… But would this type of campus work for him his first two years?

Accepted to Nursing at UP this morning
OOS
3.54 uw and school doesn’t calculate weighted for us
1290 SAT
3 APs
Many extracurricular and volunteer activities, varsity athlete, job since 10th grade, a few academic awards

@andreq The Eberly campus is in a rural area about 45 minutes SW of Pittsburgh. See

http://fayette.psu.edu/visit-us/directions-to-campus/campus-map

She should definetly get in. Pitt is extremely hard to get into.@collegedad33

@kaelen and @ccs0623 and @collegedad33 My daughter just got into nursing this week. Applied in October. Hang in there. It seems like acceptances are starting to roll in quicker now.

@aj1177: you’re lucky they took into account the fact you attend a lower performing school with few APs (they really count how many AP’s and honors). They also rightly recognized your potential and work ethics, as evidenced by your grades and class rank - they admitted you because they know you can succeed. Nevertheless the difference in course rigor from high school to college is going to be very big (imagine going to a 5 AP schedule). Summer will help with the transition - kind of like having two supercharged APs at once, but in smaller classes (24-28 rather than hundreds) with greater access to professors. When Fall comes you’ll hit the ground running.

Just got in fall education
OOS
GPA: 3.88 UW
SAT: 1140
ACT: 22
Lots of EC (president of school, head of clubs, choir, musical, many more)
3 recommendations
So excited! WE ARE!

Son got into UP engineering summer 2018
Gap 3.49 wpa 3.9
Sat 1480

@Andreq I think Goucher and UNH are both better choices than the Fayette (Eberly) campus, unless your son has a burning desire to go the PSU main campus after 2 years at a branch. I do think there is off-campus housing adjacent to campus at Fayette (University Commons), but I would guess most Fayette campus students commute from home. Both Goucher and UNH have mostly residential students.
