Did I get into 2+2?

^ yes, at Altoona, for secondary education

@thinkofalogin I’m sorry to hear that she didn’t get into UP with the reconsideration. I wish guidance counselors would tell students to apply to DUS from the start if the students stats are borderline. Your daughters outcome likely would have been different. I also wish PSU was more forthcoming on their website as to the competitiveness of Smeal so that students could plan accordingly. Your daughter has good stats, but her UW GPA is not enough for Smeal which is the most competitive college at Penn State.

If she chooses to do the 2+2, she will still graduate from PSU Smeal - and the smaller classes at Altoona make it easier to reach those very difficult GPA requirements for the entry to major classes.

Good luck!!

Yes. You got 2+2.

I agree jlhspu! I’ll know how to better advise my second child in a year when she applies to college. I was actually unsuccessfully trying to answer the education major who was not certain if she was admitted 2/2. I’m still waiting on DUS. Fingers crossed. I’ll let you know when I hear. Fortunately, my D has really good DA options at Kelley, Fisher, Farmer, South Carolina etc. Her heart has always been at PSU, but her eyes are open to other very good possibilities now. Thank you!

Ughhh nothing yet, still under review. What is up with them? I understand that there are tons of applications to review, I just wish they would communicate better with us so that we know what to expect.

Is it an option to call PSU and ask for fall admission if you were offered summer session at University Park? Will graciously take summer session offer, just wondering if it is in any way possible. Thanks in advance.

@wcgch2p , unfortunately, if you applied for fall and marked summer as a backup, then your application was already reviewed and denied for fall. They technically aren’t supposed to even look out of your second choice unless you are denied for your first choice.

Good morning all! Unfortunately it appears University Park where admissions resides is closed today due to a snow storm. I have no clue if this may or may not impact the release of the remaining decisions, which were scheduled to be released today. I don’t think the admissions crew is considered essential employees, but maybe they can release them remotely???

We called and asked this question and admissions informed us that switching from summer to fall is not an option. They said that acceptance into engineering for fall as well as summer at UP is very competitive. Maybe it is easier to switch to fall for other departments.

@Thinkofalogin Ah, I see what happened there! I thought you were updating your status but you were answering someone else about what happened to your daughter. Glad she is still “IN IT”! Hope she hears soon and gets into UP for DUS! Best of luck !

@wcgch2p - I had a friend who was accepted into Smeal two years ago for Summer. She did not want summer so they gave her a fall spot but she had to go in DUS. Shen took it and is now going to transfer into Smeal instead.

could someone get information on Sophley’s question?

Thanks for the replies.Greatly appreciate it D real eager to get a Penn state degree it also has the program and research opportunities she wants.Me on the other side want UMBC.She is also accepted in Towson and awaiting GWU,UMBC ,Uni if Florida , McDaniel and NYU.

I applied by november 30 but my application is still not under review… could this be because i am an international student and they have delayed the process?

My son applied early to the business school and was offered the 2+2 option end of January. We emailed admissions and was told DUS was full and not an option. After a few back and forth emails/calls with local admissions rep he emailed asking to be reconsidered for Liberal Arts Economics. He received an acceptance to UP at midnight. Never give up!

^They also have International Political Economy major/minor which can be nicely be paired with Economics. And he can ask to be an Aspirant for Paterno Fellows, which means he could take Economics (Micro and macro Honors) and the first year seminar with Schreyer students (if he likes high level peers and interactive discussions.)

@hayov I applied around 10/30 as an international student, and I got my changed to “under review” around early December. I am not sure why yours is still not under review, but I know for international applicants, the decisions are not going to be released until later. When I called the admission office, they said maybe the decisions will come out starting from Mid-February. Hope this helps!

wbg777 Would you mind staring your son’s stats? My daughter is in the same position and we are still waiting a second decision. However, we were not told DUS was full by our admissions person. I am very nervous!

Sure! OOS, sister graduated 2016, 30 ACT, 4.7/6 from top public HS. HS does not rank. Started his own business, varsity athlete, and all the other wonderful things all these kids have done:). Good luck and please post results!
