PSU Hopeful

I made a post about this awhile ago, but I wanted to give a more updated look.
Grades and rank: 96 uw, 105 w, and ranked 8/404 as of Sopomore year. Junior Year- 98 uw, 107 w, rank either went up or stayed the same. The classes are all honors and AP, including scores: APUSH(5), AP Euro(5), AP World(4), AP Lit(3), AP Bio(3).

Senior Schedule- Includes all honors and 3 AP's(Macro, Lang, and Calc AB)

Test Score: ACT-26( I'm going to retake, I know it's not top notch )

Extra Curriculars, Volunteer, and Awards: JV Baseball two years, one year on varsity(hopefully two), symphonic orchestra since 4th grade(first chair viola), treasurer of Symphonic Orchestra, former Vice President of Intel Science Club and created a project for Long Island's competition, NHS member(going to run for officer), Foreign Language Honor Society, School Tour Guide, over 100 hours of Volunteer Service(with various groups), and helped create a book for Armed Service members that gets circulated to veterans and current soldiers. I have won 3 awards at my school for excellence in English, Italian, and Pre Calculus.

I plan on majoring in something like Poli Sci, History, or International Relations/Politics/Studies

I visited a couple of weeks ago and loved the campus and the vibe. I was wondering what you thought my chances of getting into PSU would be

Honestly, you have a good chance at PSU. Your ACT is fine, but if you want to raise to be safe, then do it by all means. If you apply early, like in September-October, then you will definitely get in. A lot of qualified people don’t get in after those months because so many people apply.

Bump anyone else?

bump really no one?

You’ll have the best chance by putting in your application early (in September); also check off the box that asks you if you would consider starting in the summer term- that way if you don’t make the cut for fall admission, you can be considered for summer. Good luck!

Okay but what do you think my chances are to begin with?

andy-don’t think my assessment of your chances would be anything more than a guess- suggest that you check with your school’s guidance counselor, and look at your school’s Naviance data- to see how applicants from your school with similar stats fared in prior years.

Apply early, September 1st. Your grades look good, ACT a little low, but not too low. And like pamom said, check off the summer start box.

Thank you. Even if I didn’t check summer would u be ok?

There is no way to know for sure, unfortunately. My daughter’s stats were similar to yours, she applied September 1st and was accepted on Jan 21st. You just have to wait and see.

I don’t really agree with some of the above posters. I think your ACT is good for PSU, and your grades do make up for it if I’m wrong. Apply early to increase your chances, but I think you’ll get accepted!

Thanks everyone for the input!

Good tools to help you get an idea of where you stand

Wow that’s great. Based on that I look good for UP. Thank you!!

Make sure you have the ACT with writing.

Yeah I did that. Actually did well on the essay.

Got my ACT to a 28. I should have a better chance correct?

I’m currently at PSU, and you’ll almost definitely get in. I had similar stats (4.0, 2170 SAT, 17th/325, 9APs (7 5’s)) and I did just fine. And I’m one of the smartest people on my floor here. One word of warning though, make sure you can afford it. I don’t know if you’re in-state or out, but PSU is one of the most expensive schools, and I’m currently trying to decide if transferring is the best option for me financially. $40k+ a year is no joke (out of state). But purely based on your information, just apply early and you’ll be fine. You’ll probably even get into the honors college, although that is a LOT of work.

Thanks for the info. Yes I know it’s very expensive, I’ve been to the school and get info from them all the time. My app is all done, except the counselor for. My counselor said he can’t do it yet because the new rankings aren’t known yet. And I really don’t plan on doing Schryer’s

I live in Pennsylvania, and my school sends probably 25/150 students every year to PSU. My brother graduated last year, and knowing some of his friends who now attend, I can almost guarantee that you’d be accepted.
Good luck!
