has anyone heard ANYTHING from psu (regular undergrad OR the 6 year program?)

nothing for med program, but they don't have interviews until after new year's, i think

haha ok, as long as no one else has heard anything yet either, it's all good.

heh psu is really wierd and messes up their admin process a lot, i got an acceptance letter to their undergrad, and then some random guy emails me and tells me that my applicaeen forwarded to the accelerated medical program. from what i can tell this is not normal procedure and they just randomly did it for metion has b

crud..........i still haven't heard nuthin.........

you're not supposed to hear anything from penn state undergrad itself until like March... they don't look at it till then after you've completed the application process for the accelerated program... also you can't apply to PSU honors college if u apply to the accelerated medical program

actually u can apply to both, but you can only accept one or the other (i gotta load of junk from schreyer's about this).....

the application process for the accelerated program??? what does this entail other than the regular undergrad app plus essay and rec??? wasn't it all due nov. 30???

you should hear from jefferson in mid to late january about whether or not they're inviting you for an interview. theyll also ask you to write an essay and submit it before the interview. the interview is in february. i got my decision letter in march. it's all a pretty fast process overall. just be patient...

waternoodles, ur in the psu prog?

Yeah. Hopefully I'll see some of you at prog weekend...

huhmygoodness, psu--my foyst choice holla.....ok first off, tell kavita shah joe from dallastown says hi. i do have some serious questions tho--wat happens if you ever drop below the gpa requirement (and wat is that, btw)? wat is the matriculation rate for the prog? i've heard there is a 7 year option as well?

sure. kavita finished a semester early. but im sure ill talk to her sometime.

if you go under 3.5 in science/math once, you're on probation. if you go under a second time, you're out of the program. but, if you schedule smart, you really shouldn't go under. most of the people who did took a lot of hard classes at the same time. in the year above me, two people have had to leave the program because of the GPA thing.

there are 30 people in my year. i think about 25 for the year above me. maybe less, now.

there's a 7 year option, but I would start out as a 6-year. get your feet wet. you can always switch from 6 to 7 years, but not from 7 to 6 years. don't be intimidated by the thought of cramming 4 years worth of classes into 2 ... it's really not bad. we have less requirements (80 credits for 6-year students, rather than the usual 125+).

oh--i have thought about taking extra time here. penn state is a GREAT time, and you definitely have time to do more than just study.

Waternoodles,
Can you put your stats please!

what do you mean by stats?

Statistics: grades (GPA), class rank, SAT and SAT II scores, extracurricular activities, etc.

my GPA was 3.6 unweighted, top 10% of my class, SAT of 1500, SAT IIs of 720 chem, 760 math, and 780 english--nothing particularly unusual that would set me apart from the next kid as far as academics go.

I played lacrosse in high school and AAU basketball, did cancer research, wrote a book, played in international piano competitions, and was the guitarist in a rock band.

There's no formula for getting into school. It's all pretty random. I know someone who had better academic credentials than I and just as many extracurriculars, and her dad is a professor at PSU, yet she didn't get in. It's tough to say. The essay and the interview (for Jefferson at least) are really important, I guess.

Nice.

Btw, what book did you write?

an unpublished novel that i wrote. just philosophical reflective nonsense. but my interviewer asked me a lot about it so i guess she found it relatively interesting.

that and my rock band.

very nice..
This school is probably my ultimate goal, actually this program. How demanding do you find it and how much studying are you doing/should be doing? Thanks

haha, i just spent forever typing a long response and it didndt get posted.
so if you want to IM me, my screen name is "waternoodles"
