PSU or OSU?

Accepted to both Smeal and Fisher. Out of State for both but OSU is offering $12,500 National Buckeye which brings total cost down to my own in-state tuition rate. My sense from this board is PSU will not offer any $$. Don’t qualify for any material financial aid. Will PSU negotiate to come closer to cost at OSU or do I just move on to OSU?

PSU does not give much aid. Some get a bit of merit but not enough to get down to an In state cost I don’t think. Did you run the net price calculator on PSU website? That might help you. Or call financial aid at PSU and see what kinds of things they offer. PSU is sadly, notoriously lacking in financial aid

@BerlinGuy PSU does not give much merit aid to outofstate (OOS) incoming freshman–at most you may get the Provost ($4,000 to $6,000 per year) if you have very high stats. In contrast, high stat incoming freshman at Ohio State (OSU) would likely receive the National Buckeye ($12,500) and (depending on standardized test score and class rank) additional merit aid—either the Trustee ($1500), Provost ($2,500) or Maximus ($5,000). My son is at Fisher and enjoys the school a lot. Fisher is rated a bit higher than Smeal (19 versus 23) in USNewsWorld Report as well as in other publications that rank undergrad business schools. And for OOS students it’s a much better deal financially to select Fisher over Smeal. With the buckeye and Provost scholarship for OOS students, the Cost of Attendance is approx. $27,000 for OSU whereas it would be at least $40,000 at PSU. Is Smeal worth paying $50,000 more over 4 years versus OSU? I think NOT!

I would call the Financial aid office and or the admission office. Penn State is notorious for not giving any money but if they want you they may find some money. Its funny when you ask. All of sudden they come up with money. Good luck
