PSU Response

Does anyone know when penn state will start sending out admission letters?

Admissions Reps told me that the bulk of their decisions are sent out mid January whether your apply August 1st or November 1st, as long as it is in before Nov. 30th they are all counted the same.

I cannot wait until January >.<

The admissions rep I spoke to basically told me the same things, except he also said that some "special cases" could receive their decisions earlier (but yeah, like slugger said, you'll most likely find out in January).

I applied in October and was admitted mid November.

Two years ago, S received his admission notice in November, also.

Maybe they just say January to air on the side of caution. Most people who actually went through the experience seem to have found out in November.

It depends on the strength of your application. If have GPA/SAT scores that are well above the average at PSU, you will get early notification - late October or November. Those on the bubble usually have to wait until January.

What do you think about someone with like a 3.4 gpa and a 28 ACT?

slugger: you will likely hear in Jan.
Generally, the GPA cutoff is 3.5 and it counts for 2/3.
If you have a much higher weighted GPA, you may hear sooner.

Well the weighed is only .3 higher, leaving mine at 3.7, however, my school weights HORRIBLY. If you take a single regents, accelerated, honors, or AP class, they raise your weighted average by .3, its stupid. The difference between my unweighted and weighted should be bigger because I have taken 10 AP classes, which will hopefully help me out more.

Don't feel too bad slugger. S's school did not weight honors or APs at all...zilch...Also, did not include PE or art grades in gpa.

I completely understand, I don't think schools should have weighted grades, they should just have gpa and then how many honors or ap's they take. It makes life so much more fair.

what about 3.52 GPA and 1500/1600 SAT, november or january?

Probably closer to November, I would say around then or December.

My D (I think her unweighted gpa was around 3.7ish) submitted her application in early November '06 and was admitted by the end of the month. Good luck to all of you.

Similar results to MOTH in 2006--DD's unweighted GPA 3.76; submitted app early Sept. Was admitted early Nov. I assume some of you should hear the week of Nov. 5th. Best of luck; keep us posted!

Well, I will probably find out in a month or two because I am taking the ACTs again, shooting for a 28+, then sending my scores in, although all other parts of my application are in.

I applied with a 4.0 weighted and 1100 SAT and got into engineering early last year. If you have a solid gpa (3.8+), you should not worry.
