OOS
1440 SAT (770 M, 670 CR/W)
4.0 UW GPA
10 APs

I applied regular. Oh well.

Wow. 3800 applicants so 300/3800 = less than an 8 percent acceptance rate!

I assume they must accept at least 600 to get 300, but still. Very selective!

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! Feel free to ask any questions you have and those of us who frequent the PSU forum here can try to answer.

Reflection

Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: low GPA compared to other applicants and not many AP
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: only applied to PSU and PSU SHC

@michigander1234 any student at Penn State is allowed to take an honors course as long as you have the right prerequisites!

Sure. My sons are entering the college of arts & sciences undecided. Likely to end up in economics, political science, or journalism. Unless they chuck it all and head to Colorado to become white water guides…

Accepted! (in state)

objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 700 m 770e
SAT II: didn’t send
Weighted GPA (out of 100): 102.5 (my school does not do 4.0 scale but I think its somewhere around 4.3?)
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/350ish
AP (place score in parenthesis): US Gov (4) currently taking Calc AB and Psych, my school does not offer many APs so I also took 5 college classes through Dual Enrollment, all A’s there
Senior Year Course Load: 2 AP, also on co-op program as Public Relations Assistant 20hrs/week, basically I alternate between school and work every day

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Varsity XC and Track 9-12, captain 2yrs, NHS (president this year)
Job/Work experience: Public Relations, as noted above
Volunteer/Community service: volunteer at many local 5ks and other races handing out water and stuff
Summer Activities: summer job at local pool, took college classes past two summers as well
Essays (rating 1-10, details): 9-10, I put a lot of personality/sass into them, obviously it worked
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): 9-10, one of my teachers wrote me a phenomenal one
Interview: 8-9, funny story, my interviewer didn’t show up on time (it was a 9am interview I think) and I actually had to call him and wake him up I think, he showed up 45 min late. I think he probably appreciated that I waited it out and didn’t just leave. We had a good conversation despite different interests.

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: heck yeah
Intended Major: Graphic Design, though after seeing the program I didn’t like it, so I’d probably switch it if I decide to go to Penn State.
State (if domestic applicant): PA
School Type: public vocational
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Income Bracket: <100,000, prefer not to specify

Reflection

Strengths: I think my essays were really strong, and I think the fact that I took college classes shows that I am willing/able to challenge myself.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly don’t know. I was sort of expecting a rejection.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Towson U, RIT, Syracuse, U of Michigan, U of Delaware, also waiting on 4 Ivies (I was deferred by Yale)
