PSU student studying abroad in the UK?

Hello everyone!

Please help, I am looking to study abroad during the Spring 2014 semester and now I am most interested in studying in the UK. Due to financial reasons and scholarships, it is simply easier to only consider programs offered through PSU. I'm studying political science and philosophy with an extreme interest in law.

I would really appreciate any opinions/thoughts/comments/any scrap of knowledge you have acquired about any of the following universites.....

-University of Bath*

-University of Sussex

-University of Kent*

-Goldsmith College

-University of Westminster

-University of Leeds*

*I am considering these schools the most at the moment, though not really for any particular reason.

-University of Bath*
Good university, and known especially for its extra-curricular sport - in that respect, it is second only to Loughborough. In the picturesque if somewhat touristy town of Bath, but the university is on a campus outside town. The city can be moderately expensive, and isn’t particularly student orientated, but it’s about 12 miles from Bristol (there’s even a direct cycle path) which is larger and has two universities.

-University of Sussex
In Brighton, which is much like Britain’s answer to San Francisco - the seaside gay capital. Particularly liberal, so it would probably be something of a shock to the system for someone from the bible belt! A good university with plenty to do and good access to London if that’s important to you. Would probably be my joint first choice, with Leeds.

-University of Kent*
A solidly academic university. It’s not dissimilar to Bath in that you’ll be outside a small, historic town. Canterbury is smaller than Bath though, so it wouldn’t be my first choice.

-Goldsmith College
It’s a good university, but not a big name. In London, so do be aware of the sky-high cost of living. Expect to pay 2-3x as much just on rent as you would in somewhere like Leeds.

-University of Westminster
I’d strike Westminster from this list - it has nowhere near the same academic calibre of the others.

-University of Leeds*
A big northern city, with lots of nightlife and an excellent academic reputation. I actually applied there many moons ago for politics! It would be a bit of a toss up for me between Leeds and Sussex.

One big thing that I will note is that you should consider what modules (courses) will be available for you to study. There can be a lot of variation, and I’m sure that you have things you like more and less (I’m not a fan of IPE, for instance).

What sort of thing are you looking for in a study abroad experience?
