Hi everyone, I have a question. So i applied in early october to summer 2013 Divison of undergrad studies. And i still haven’t found out yet my decision. Is this a bad or good thing?? my credentials are on the cusp, and i defiantly could go either way accepted or denied. Is it a good sign that i am basically waiting till the last day they can get back to me? I really want to get accepted for summer session and I’m so confused why I’m going to find out the last day possible. Sorry if this as all confusing, but any response is helpful! thank you!

@pennstatelm I’m in the same boat as you. I called admissions yesterday and they said I should definitely hear by the end of this month. Hang in there!

Greatescape74 Thanks for the info! Acceptance Day? I do not know what/when that is…Newbie here…I thought everything had to be finalized in May. When would my son be notified about Acceptance Day? He did accept his offer and picked his choices for summer (they do not allow you to input anything) and fall. We were wondering if we should switch from SLO, Roommate, Location to SLO, Location, Roommate since his friend seems to be bailing on Penn State. Thanks! BELIEVE62

^ on a note unrelated to myself, if I read this right, your son aims to room with a close friend of his? If so, it may actually be more of a virtue than a vice if his friend is flaking out. Everyone I’ve had the discussion with made it quite clear for me that rooming with a friend is trouble 9/10 times.

Believe62 - go to your son’s my penn state and on the mid right hand side there are booklets you can choose from like the leap one, and then there is another booklet i think called accepted students, click on that and inside one of the pages, maybe page 2, you can sign up for accepted students days, but it has to be through the my penn state link in the booklet. In terms of summer, I believe all students are housed around the same location, whether they do for instance, leap or not…and i’d go with your second option you listed for order for fall and the slo…you can always change it up to May 15th. You will have a good shot at having top pick up to that date since you accepted so early (I do have another daughter that will also be going next year - freshman that got summer acceptance…junior daughter is now in the wrapping everything up mode for senior year there) Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions…I will try to answer, but I’m trying to figure the summer / fall thing out too lol…first time doing that But my junior daughter who is there now wished she would have done summer!

Greatescape74 Thank You! I guess you can tell this is my first child going to live away from home. I will definitely have my son take a look at the booklet. I did know about LEAP and my son seems okay with it after talking with his guidance counselor who is a Penn State grad and did the summer session (not too too long ago). Good Luck to your daughters! I did find out that I have to fill out two FASFA forms (Summer & Fall/Spring).
Yeah!..Have a Good Day! BELIEVE62

Fizz14 I did hear that as well but I think he thinks he knows better than I…BELIEVE62

Does anybody know the deadline for the FAFSA forms?

March 1 is the deadline for maximum consideration…so the sooner you complete it, the more money you get…GO DO IT NOW

Hahah thank you!!!

Nervousgal123 We filled out the FAFSA and our EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) is the total cost of attending Penn State. I don’t know if anyone knows what method they use but we believe it is your total income and property value. They do not ask for your liabilities (mortgage payment, car loans, debts, etc…) I believe you must file this form anyway. We were notified in a few days.

ha ha efc is not the total cost of attending penn state…the efc amount just shows how much you can pay every year to the college…mine was around 1k lol

General Comments: Well, looks like its possible to get accepted to Penn State with a pathetically low SAT of 1740…happy to get in

psufang - That “pathetic” SAT, is that total for 3? Could you say what your CR and Math were? My D took SAT and scored WORSE than you lol, then took ACT and got 26 (just as bad, really). She is a 3.93UW GPA, IB/AP student with many, many ECs, great essay, recommendations, etc. but its so low we’re worried they won’t see past it for the rest of her package!
I must say, your stats make me feel better about her chances, so for what its worth, thank you
And congrats - if PSU is where you want to be, then YAY you accomplished your goal!!
:)

" I must say, your stats make me feel better about her chances, so for what its worth, thank you "
ha ha that is the main reason I posted my stats, to help other borderline people…how do you think I feel posting 1740 at a place where everyone else is posting 2000
Yes is it total for 3, total of 2 cannot exceed more than 1600…Penn State looks at all 3 sections, not just math and reading, Score Break Down: 520 Reading, 600 Math, 620 Writing
English is not my mother tongue, So no matter how hard I tried, I was not able to get the reading section.

When did you daughter apply ? If it was after november 30, then I cannot say anything…Actually 26 on the ACT translates to 1760, so she should get in combined with that 3.9 GPA and IB classes…
