I’m sorry that you’re all in the same situation but it does make us feel a wee bit better about the whole thing–that she’s not alone in waiting almost two months to hear. Of course, it is frustrating that some of her classmates have already been accepted, but they applied in September.

@WattsaMattaU people who applied in late November have already heard! They should not call themselves rolling if they don’t actually do it rolling - like UPitt for example.

OOS
Act- 29
Gpa- 3.7 unweighted … Pretty much all honors ap and duel enrollment clases
Applied as finance major
Already accepted to rutgers and udels buisness schools…
I love penn state and dying to hear back … Do i have a shot?

@Maddyher123 I say match, very low reach if anything! Don’t worry

@WattsamattaU My D has had that status since September 8th! PSU says they are rolling, but are not really until after November 30th. And even then - they told me that it’s possible that some students who apply after November 30th (priority) could hear BEFORE students who applied prior to priority deadline. Not sure how that’s possible - and they said it’s not a typical thing, but can happen. On another thread (rolling admission and this terrible waiting) there are lots of theories on how their rolling system works and why. Some recent responses have made me feel better about the wait. I’m guessing not until after the holidays for my D because she is a borderline stats kid. Then again, many really high stat kids haven’t heard yet either. It’s impossible to figure out how things are done…I’ve tried! When they say it’s random…it truly is!

Guys please chance me! Responses appreciated.
International Student
GPA 3.83
SAT 1930 (Superscore) 1850 (highest on one sitting)
IB 41/45 (predicted)
IGCSE: Physics Chemistry and Math A A* A*
Intended Major: Computer Engineering.
Strong essays and recommendation letters.
Decent extra curricular activities and community service

Penn state is my 1st choice!

I know the SAT screwed me over

@reddevil10 I’m no expert but will say PSU doesn’t superstore. Engineering is very competitive so applying DUS and taking intended classes then declaring major sophomore year might be the way to go. Check this years and last years threads to see is comparable scores got in. That would be your best indication instead of asking peoples opinions. Good luck

I applied to DUS and haven’t heard back yet either.
GPA: 3.37 (very competitive public school-2nd best in NJ)-81/109 applicants were accepted from my school last year
SAT: 1920(superscore) 1890(one sitting)
Very good essays and recs, strong extra extracurriculars
One of my top choices, already accepted into Indiana, and business school at rutgers, pitt, and binghamton
What do you guys think my chances are?

I am honestly going insane from waiting this long. They HAVE to come up with a better admissions process this really isn’t fair.

@scohen99 Yup, I agree - I’m just about over this. I’ve been accepted to all my other top choices who have much better processes. Maybe that’s a sign…

You’ll get in. @brk133

We’ve been waiting anxiously since Sept. like so many others. But thankfully my D received her first acceptance to University of Delaware yesterday, so she feels a lot less stress! C’mon PSU!!! Bring us all some good news! :-h

Congrats @psumom1321. Heard Delaware has been generous with merit money this year too.

@mamahills Thanks! Some merit $ would be awesome… hope you’re right! Think we’re in the same boat as you…
been waiting on Smeal since 9/22! Hang in there!

@psumom1321 just went through this with a friend. you should see it online if child rec’d merit money so check somewhere that has the tuition breakdown. I can txt friend if you want specifics and can’t find anything. Thanks for sharing how long you are waiting too… When I called admissions yesterday they said the majority haven’t heard and staff will be out for holiday break 12/23-1/5 so I’m not expecting anything until after that.

Mamahills…thanks so much! I just checked but I don’t think merit $ is posted yet. Fingers crossed

@psumom1321… merit money definitely posted to some because one friend child rec’d $5K per year and another rec’d $8k there. And another’s had none so she’s assuming child didn’t get any. Hope she’s wrong would be nice to get merit money since there’s a very very slim chance anyone will receive any from PSU. Good luck!!

@mamahills I checked PSU’s freshman profile and the middle 50% of SAT scores for admitted students was 1750 - 2000. The website also says that 2/3rd consideration is given to GPA and the remaining 1/3rd to SAT, reco letters, essays,ECs,etc. Thanks for your input!

My D applied in early November and heard back (accepted to Smeal) on December 6th, which was awesome because we were not even expecting it that early. I didn’t realize how lucky she was until reading this thread! Keep the faith everyone!

@PSUMom1321 - congrats! Great university.
I don’t recall if the merit offer we received was in a letter or online or that it showed up with my son’s acceptance to UofDel. I remember it was roughly around $8000. Enough given to bring the COA closer to PSU COA, but my son chose PSU.

My son got merit aid at all of his 4 acceptances with exception of PSU. :-(
