This is so weird… my friend who applied 3 weeks later than me and he already got his letter back (well he got denied but still… he heard his thing before i did. also we applied for the same major.)
my classes are harder than his, and my GPA is higher. but his SAT is like 300 pts better than me lol… i honestly gave up with penn state’s system now… it makes no sense

@Bhenrique15 congrats! When did you get your acceptance if you don’t mind me asking?
Has anyone heard of anyone getting a decision this week? Or even a status change?
@Leyland sadly, nothing. I truly sit at the computer hitting the “refresh” button, and my friends are doing the same…this is so NOT fun… I just want to know already!!!
Does anyone know if they take a while to update the portal, and if we should call and ask our status?
@Tooth1010 they have said they update once a day, usually overnight. They told another poster earlier this week that most hear in the last two weeks of January.
@Tooth1010 Thanks! I checked the portal Thursday night and it was there. I’m not sure when it was posted but most likely Tuesday/Wednesday Night.
Only a couple more days until we’re in the last two weeks of january! I’m soo anxious

Question about the getting into the summer session. My S didn’t put summer as a choice on his application. Now that he’s done more research, he sees what a good option it is. If he doesn’t get into UP he wants to contact admissions to ask if he can apply for summer, instead of a branch campus.
My question is…what’s the best way for him to contact the admissions dept? Phone, e-mail, letter, all? I know some of you know people who did this in the past, do you know how they handled it? If you know what they said that would be helpful too. Thanks!
@pinkmd, as I recall from last year, a lot of students called admissions, at least initially. It seemed the university was very accommodating of such requests.
ETA: Check around post #875 in last year’s decisions thread. Call or email was the suggested approach.
Has anyone received the Provost Award with their acceptance letter?

kmichelle congratulations that’s great news for you. Penn State is a terrific school, and you should be proud of your accomplishments so far. I’ll bet you’ve worked hard and so deserve to go to a great school.
You should also know that according to US News and World Report’s the entering class in 2013at Penn State University Park had the following stats: GPA range 25 - 75 percentile 3.4 - 3.8 with average being 3.6. And SAT 25 - 75 in Critical Reading 520 - 620 with average 572. Math 550 - 650 with average 609. Writing 530 - 630 with average 581. Adding up the averages you get combined SAT (of the average kid accepted in 2013) of 1762.
So the average kid who was accepted in 2013 had a 3.6 GPA and 1762 SAT. From where I’m sitting kmichelle, you are right where you belong.
I hope this is helpful, and wish you the very best wherever you decide to attend college. Keep working hard and good things will happen.
@kmichelle Just for clarification…did you apply to UP and were accepted to Behrend as a second choice campus? Or did you apply directly to Behrend? Just trying to get a clear idea of denials and deferrals to branch campuses. And congratulations!
Do you think more decisions will come this week?
@ozzieD do you know if the GPA 25-75 was weighted or unweighted? I’m assuming unweighted but id like to make sure.

FYI: The moderators were nice enough to pin last year’s decisions thread to the top of the Penn State forum here, as a help to those who want to have a better idea how the process played out last year.
I’m going to suggest they update the featured threads as well.
Anyone hear anything today???
