As an alumni, I an ecstatic my son received his acceptance to UP College of Engineering on Nov 3rd. His status changed twice before actual acceptance. Upon receiving his offer, he immediately accepted.
His status changed to acceptance early evening so be sure to check after dinner! Best of luck everyone.

Now, does anyone have tips for how to avoid East Halls?

Congratulations to all of the acceptances! That’s awesome!
On the admissions chat yesterday they said that Freshmen live mostly in East, then next largest population in Pollack, then North, and someone else said they also live in South and West! So, I’d guess if you get your housing request in early and don’t put East as your first or second choice, then you should have a good shot of getting out of East. Good luck and congratulations to everyone!

@MetsfanAJM nothing is wrong with East Halls. It’s just far away from most classes in the corner of campus. But on the other hand, it is very near the creamery and Beaver Stadium. Also, ONLY freshmen live in East Halls. Some people want that, others do not. East Halls is a typical cement block, bathroom in the hallway, dorm. But to be fair, a lot of the dorms on campus are the same way. There is a nice big quad around East Halls and I think it’s a very nice part of campus. Whether it’s too far for you or not may depend on your intended major. The engineering buildings are on a diagonal on the other side of campus…so very far away. I knew a lot of people who lived in East and they wouldn’t change a thing. You certainly get to know a lot of people and make a lot of friends because everyone is new.

I was accepted on Monday (Nov. 3rd) to the College of Communications for fall term at University Park!

Stats:
SAT: N/A
ACT: 30
GPA: 3.52/4.0, 3.843 W
Rank: My school does not rank

Essays: I would say pretty strong, I kept a narrative format throughout and I think this was by far the strongest essay I used for any college.
Teacher Recs: None
Counselor Rec: I would assume decent

State or Country: IL
School Type: Large public
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female

Other Factors: Most prominent activities were: Sports (track and field, XC), National Honor Society, youth group participation along with annual mission trip, English TA, employment experience

General Comments: This is my number one school and for that reason I was thrilled to get in (i.e. cried for about thirty minutes). However, I will also say that I definitely did not expect to hear back earlier than late January, let alone hear back at the time when the very first decisions were being sent out. I’ve heard rumors for so long that the “strongest” applicants get decisions the earliest and that most have to wait for months. By no means would I consider myself at the top of the applicant pool, which makes me wonder if that idea is even true at all. So, to those of you who are paranoid that you’ll have to wait months for a decision because you consider yourself a “middle of the road” applicant, so was I–and don’t think too hard about that! From the time that I submitted my web application to the time that I received my admissions decision, only about 6-7 days had gone by.

Accepted Eberly College of Science University Park! Submitted my app 9/5, “coming days” on 10/31, and acceptance on 11/3!

Other stats: 14 AP/Honors classes, 4 year softball varsity letterman, national honor society, French honor society, volunteer work

Subjective:
Essays: pretty good I’d say
Teacher Recs: didn’t send
Counselor Rec: not sure
Hook (if any):

Location/Person:
State or Country: PA
School Type: large public school
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female

Other Factors:
General Comments: My first choice! I didn’t think I’d hear this early and I was so happy when I did! This is the only school I want to go to and I can’t wait for next year!

PennStateAlum92 - for engineering your son might want to look at the Engineering SLO. Many schools dorm their engineers together. I’m not sure what building it’s in, but you can check in the housing link or just search Penn State SLO.

Has everyone received their acceptance letter in the mail? My DD was accepted online 11/3 and she still hasn’t received anything in the mail. My older DD received hers the same day the acceptance went online.
