PSU (University Park) Class of 2019 Decision Thread

My son received his acceptance to Univ Park for Fall 2015 (College of Eng) Nov 3rd around 6pm. Still waiting on letter. Good luck

Does anyone know the title of the Facebook page that allows accepted students to search for roommates?

^It will be listed under " Penn State class of 2019 " or something along those lines. You could probably search class of 2018 and figure out what exact page to join. We know several people that have found compatible roommates through the accepted student Facebook page. My son did not take advantage of it and had an awful roommate experience as they were complete opposites.

My DD, a junior now, used the FB class of 2016 and I would recommend finding a roommate there. Many of the kids also used it to make a few friends before they got to campus. It’s a way to get to know someone other than through a questionnaire. The only thing my DD might have changed is looking for someone in a similar major. She was a STEM major and her roommate was Communications. STEM majors have more homework/studying. My DS was an engineering major and roomed with a German Language major, again not a great fit. In both cases it wasn’t a problem with the person, they got along great, it was the work load difference and potential for distraction.

Thanks pacpac:-)

Thanks kville mom:-) I can see where workload may cause some issues. My son is considering E-house for that among other reasons.

Kvillemom - great advice. It is so true. My son is an Engineering major and so is his roommate. They are pretty much in the same classes. Less temptation to blow off studying.

He is moving off campus for next Fall. He is moving into a 5 bedroom along with his current roommate and 3 other engineering majors. Hopefully, they all can help each other out.

Does anyone know from previous years if Communications is considered one of the more select majors. I would not have necessarily thought so, but each school is different.

Does anyone know when you can find out about scholarships?

@rofiorillo‌ my DD says she doesn’t think Communications is one of the more selective majors.

@shb5120‌ I just checked this for DD2 who is currently waiting. When DD1 applied in the Fall of 2011 she got her acceptance around Dec 6th and her scholarship (from her college, not the university) letter around Feb 16th. She accepted and paid the deposit around Feb 6th, so I don’t know if the scholarship letter went out because she accepted or it would have gone out at that date even if she hadn’t accepted. The letter was written to her as a student that was offered admission, not as a student that accepted their offer.

@PERplexD‌, @PennStateAlumn92‌ I know some schools (WVU, Univ of Arizona) specifically dorm Engineering students together because of the rigorous work load. I think it’s a great idea.

I applied around September 6th or 7th to university park and have had the status of “reviewing my credentials and a decision will be posted as soon as one is made” for about a month and a half now. My scores and gpa seem to fit in the middle percent easily. How much longer should I expect to wait for a decision I’m dying to know!!

@Grace768 the only thing anyone can tell you is that you will hear back by January 31. You can look at those already admitted that have posted on this thread and get an idea of what stats levels/colleges are getting admitted, but these are just the students/parents on CC. Sorry, I know that the waiting is hard. Good luck!

hey guys I just submitted my application and realized that I forgot my social security number…
Should I notify the admissions office? (I’m not applying for financial aid, but I may apply for merit scholarships. Also, I’m a US citizen)
