PSU (University Park) Class of 2019 Decision Thread

@Grace768 My D applied September 2nd and has had that same status since September 8th, so we feel your pain! Admissions told me just last week that they have only notified a small percentage of applicants and that we can expect to hear by January 31st at the latest. They said not to worry at all if you know people with the same stats that have heard and you have not. Notifications are “random” according to them. Although, you will notice trends with GPA’s and majors of students already notified. Long story short, you will hear by Jan 31st. The waiting stinks!

@DaneBrick I’d call or e mail admissions. If you are applying for scholarships, then they will need that I’m sure.

@jlhpsu even if the scholarships aren’t need-based?

Also wouldn’t I lose my priority application status?

@DaneBrick‌ is your application complete? As in you have all necessary materials in? If so, then adding your SS# should not change your priority date. But I’d call and ask them these questions. They ask for your SS# for a reason so my guess is they want it.

@jlhpsu yes the rest of my app is in. But does a lack of a SS# affect my chances of being admitted or just the chances of getting merit scholarships? I’ve been reading that stating your SS# is only necessary for students applying for financial aid. Just want to know how true this is.

Depends on whether they consider an app “complete” without that. I don’t know the answer to that. I’d call admissions and ask to be sure. @DaneBrick‌

Accepted (early Nov.) Smeal College of Business

@jlhpsu alright I called them and they said that the SS# doesn’t matter if you’re not applying for financial aid, and I can always give it to them if admitted and if needed. So wish me luck I hope we both get in (or your child gets in I think you’re a parent, not sure)

@DaneBrick Good to hear! Yes, I’m an anxious mom of a child who applied, lol. But I’m also a PSU (UP) alumni as is my husband, so I have some insight into some things - and definitely no insight into others :slight_smile: Wishing the best for everyone!

[ *] Other: I thought my personal statement was pretty good, but nothing mindblowing. I think I applied in early November, but I’m not sure if that affected my chances of admission or not. I also didn’t send any letters of recommendation.

@metsfanajm wrote: “What’s so bad about East Halls?”

NOTHING! I loved East Halls so much that I stayed all 4 years in Packer Hall as did many of my friends. Many others that I knew stayed 3 years and then moved out to an apartment.

The only drawback is that it is a bit farther to the south side of campus near Atherton, Rec Hall etc. Then again it is the closest to the stadiums and the Creamery!
