I plan to major in Management Information Systems. I am currently very interested in these 3 schools: Syracuse, Penn State, and Binghamton. Binghamton is cheaper for me and is known as the " SUNY Ivy League". However, this school’s management program is bait difficult to get into, and I don’t think it will be able to give me the ultimate college experience. Syracuse’s iSchool is great from what I hear, and I have fallen for this school as well. Penn State: Smeal is another great school which I still need to do research on. Both PSU and SU are expensive, but I heard SU gives great financial aid.
Based on my little rant about these schools, which do you guys think will be a better choice? I will definitely apply to all, but what do you guys think will offer me a better education as well as a great college experience? Students/Alumni are welcome to share their opinion about their experiences.
PS My plan is to apply to Bing EA, SU ED, and PSU RD
There’s no reason to pay PSU’s steep OOS tuition if you can’t afford it up front.
(Also, we have rolling admissions, there is no PSU RD.)
@bodangles Im sure they offer a financial aid package…
Hahahah…the financial aid isn’t even good for in-state students. But run the Net Price Calculator for an estimate.
https://cce.ais.psu.edu/college-cost-web/netPricePageOne.xhtml
“The median annual Penn State scholarship or grant award is just over $2900” – which is MINISCULE.
that is pretty low…well i know what school i may not want to apply to…
Try the net price calculator on each school’s web site before applying.
There was another thread about Bing v SU recently, you might want to search for that. I personally looved my time at Binghamton, and SOM is definitely a great program. Looking at your stats from the other thread, I think you’d have to really raise your test scores for it to not be a big reach though. Re: the college experience, Syracuse definitely has more of a rah-rah sports go-team kind of vibe, but if you seek that out at Binghamton it’s there in different ways. If you mean something else by the “college experience” let me know.
How many of the same threads are you posting? 3,4,5? It might be more useful to post just one but include a sufficient amount of information to be used to reply in an informed manner. It’s not hard to figure out what that would be because CC has tons of threads written by students who include all the information needed so they can get helpful replies, something I assume you want too.
@lostaccount Dude, don’t worry about what I post. Im really anxious during this time, so yes I may post repetitively. But please, do not comment unnecessary nonsense. Thanks much!
You can get in trouble for spamming if you post excessively, so don’t act like lostaccount is the one posting “unnecessary nonsense,” lol. They’re trying to help you out.
@loveyounot…You may want to look into the dual Whitman/i-School program at Syracuse. It requires 136 credits and is very doable in 4 years with summer courses and/or AP/IB/CLEP credits. My daughter is a rising junior at SU and is a Whitman/Newhouse dual. She is truly loving her time at Cuse. Academically, you cannot go wrong with PSU, Bing, or SU. Good luck with your college search and decision.
@bodangles he’s not helping at this time. And I don’t post often actually.
@ funfatdaddy, I have looked into that dual program, but I hear Whitman in itself is a pretty tough program to get into, so idk if I’d meet the requirements to even get accepted. But again, idk.
