PSU vs. USC vs. Mines for Petroleum E.

I just wonder which school would land me better job, internship, and world reputation for overall between these three. Thank you!!

Usc

Mines probably would be your best bet, mostly due to location. But I’d go to whatever school is cheapest.

Mines

Penn State or Mines. Definitely not USC.

^Why not USC? In terms of reputation globally, USC is by far the best option. Plus many petroleum engineers tend to live in California. If money is not an issue, go for it.

First of all, which “Mines” college are you talking about; South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Colorado School of Mines, or New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology? Really, you would be fine at any of those three. By the way, there’s likely not a significant difference among U.S. petroleum engineering programs. They are all good, therefore I wouldn’t go into great debt for any one particular school. Be aware that the PetEng program at SD Mines is relatively new, but overall, engineering at SD Mines will highly regarded nationally. Also be advised that at the present time, competition for PetEng jobs is fierce. As you might know, things have slowed down quite a bit because of the falling price of crude oil.
