PSU vs UVA

HI! I'm from PA, sorority girl type.. with a work hard, play hard attitude. I'm so torn between these two schools! I've been accepted into PSU's business school, and waiting to hear from the Schreyer Honors College and Sapphire Leadership Program. I'm waiting to hear from UVA as well, hoping I'll get in! (I've heard being a Jeff Scholar nominee helps!!) Given the choice between the two.. which would you choose? I want to go somewhere in the business world, not sure exactly where yet!

thanks :)

Is the $18,300 cost differential between in-state at PSU and OOS at UVA a significant consideration for you?

yes! im hoping for a lot of financial aid. my mother is recently widowed and i have a sister who is a sophomore in hs

shamrock528, I am currently a freshman in the Smeal College of Business and the Sapphire Leadership Program. Last year when I was deciding between colleges I too was torn between PSU and UVA. While I did love UVA’s campus, I decided on Penn State for a number of reasons.

Money was a major issue for me and I just couldn’t justify spending that much more on a college that was equally as good accedemically as Penn State.

The other major factor was the Sapphire Program. Sapphire provides a more intimate setting within Smeal and Penn State as a whole. It is a great opportunity within Smeal to develop your leadership skills and prepare you for a job after college. I would definitely suggest that you look into it more and consider applying. If you have any questions let me know, or you can email Cindi Satterfield at cds14@psu.edu. She is the director of the recruiting efforts for the program and she should be able to answer most of your questions!

You can also check out sapphire’s new website at: clubs.psu.edu/up/sapphire

UVA’s business school is top-notch. I’m pretty sure its ranked in the top 10 in the nation. I don’t really know that much about PSU, but it’s a good school too and you’re in-state, so its really up to you. I might be bias though since UVA is my top choice

Do you know where you want to live after graduation? If you want to work in PA, PSU would be the better choice. EVERYBODY in PA knows Penn State and the alumni network is massive, especially in the PA-MD-DE region. If you’re hoping to live further south, UVA would be the better choice. UVA is a better school, but at the same time, I don’t think there’s enough difference between the schools to warrant paying extra for OOS tuition. Publics also (usually) have pretty crappy aid for OOS students. And if you get into Schreyers, definitely go to Penn State.
