Hey guys, how is psych at Umich? I have heard it is amazing. I am enrolling at Case, but with UMich being cheaper, I am wondering if I should apply as a transfer again (I am transferring to Case). While I love Case based on what I know, I am wondering if it is only great for engineering and premed. So how is psych at UMich?
It’s one of their top majors with tons of opportunities for research with great success in grad-school placement. Professors are at the top of their fields, especially in psych. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed if you do decide to transfer
It’s considered less challenging compared to the other science majors at UM, but as mentioned by @woah16, the professors here at top notch. 2 of the most inspiring professors that I’ve ever had were psych professors. I’m not sure if it’s worth transferring over for though since I know Case is a great school as well. It’s also important to consider how you’ll be able to handle moving around so much. I’m guessing you’re currently a 2nd year student, and if you transferred, then you’d either be a 2nd semester 2nd year student or a 1st semester 3rd year student. In either case, you should ask yourself if you are comfortable with that lack of stability in environment.
If you decide to anyway, I’m sure you’ll love the pysch department here
@iououaeu that is true, thanks so much for your insight.
@woah16 thanks a lot.
I’m about to officially declare as a psychology major at Michigan (along with a different major) and I can tell you that the professor means everything in these psychology classes, based on the classes I have taken so far. My Psych 111 teacher was spectacular, but one of my 200 level psychology teachers, while not difficult, was not a great teacher. Ratemyprofessors will be your friend for sifting through potential classes to take in the psychology department. I will recommend taking Psych 211 as your experiential lab for the major. Not only is it a very easy class, but it is very worthwhile, as you are required to volunteer in the Ann Arbor community. Although volunteering for four hours a week, on top of the academic requirements of Michigan seems like a lot, looking back on it, the class was VERY worthwhile and has been my favorite psychology class at Michigan, so far.
