I am really interested in taking psych at Amherst and doing the pre-med requirements and i also saw that neuro also has psych courses and those needed and more for pre-med. On the site, it seems as if neuro is the hardest major, is this true? And how much time will I have to take electives. Any experiences and stories about either major would be great. Thanks.

The psych and neuroscience tracks are quite complementary to the premed requirements at Amherst. My D is a bio major. Her only complaint is that credits are given per course, rather than per credit hour. That results in science and premed majors having a generally more demanding schedule (as lab courses count the same as any other course) than those students who major in the social sciences or the humanities. This is mitigated somewhat by the fact that Amherst has no core requirements other than a freshman seminar. This allows science majors to take electives that interest them, rather than having to meet some predesignated curriculum dictated to them by the administration.
