Psychoactive drugs & entheogens

I'm interested in psychoactive drugs (especially used as entheogens). I'm not sure how I could obtain a career in this study, or even what schools and classes teach this kind of thing. Any help?

Pharmacology is the study of drugs and mechanisms of action. Neuroscience is the study of the anatomy and physiology of nerve cells and tissue. The kinds of careers that combine these fields are in drug development (biotech and pharmaceutical), academic research and government regulation (drug safety and efficacy). One good way to get into this career path is to study in a biological science in undergrad and gain as much lab experience as possible. Most labs take on an undergrad or two, some paid some unpaid. Depending on what you do later on, you may want to directly enter biotech without a Phd or go onto a Phd program. In the biomedical sciences, Phd programs are part of a training process that goes on for up to a decade including post doc training. This whole time you are effectively a working professional being paid (pretty low salaries) and only taking classes the first year or so.

Pharmacology (Pharmacy school in College majors) would probably be the route you’d want to take. I agree this study is very interesting, and that’s why Pharmacy is my major, as it is fun to learn about how drugs affect the mind.
