Does anyone know how strong the psychology department at NU is? Also, how are undergraduate research opportunities at NU? It seems like it's really important to have on your resume for graduate school.

bumpity bump bump

It’s ranked 21st by USN. I don’t really know any more than you do but I am sure it’s strong like most other programs at NU.

@Sam, do you know where I can find the list for the rankings for psychology?

From what I’ve heard (I dont know if the faculty and students were just trying to sell the school or not), Northwestern has extensive research opportunities…but then again, I’m not a student there…

where is this ranking?

can anyone tell me about the professors and the coarse work?

buuump 10 char

The program is excellent, the professor’s great and nice, and the classes interesting. Tons of research labs to work in.

I don’t know if Sam Lee is referring to solely an undergrad ranking for USN I have no clue about, but for graduate program ranking NU is 17 for psychology if that helps at all.
The program is great. You can fill your major requirements by the end of your sophomore year, so you can easily double major. The professors are top notch and available to undergrads. There are a ton of opportunities and funding for undergrad research. I started working in a lab my freshman year, and now, as a junior, I am doing my own research and getting funded by the university… life is good. And it’s not like I’m a star student; many of my friends do their own research through senior honors thesis or independent study. The undergrad psych group also provides a lot of support and networking for graduate school.

If you are interested more of the applied side of psychology, there is a major called Human Development and Psychological Services, which is geared for students wanting to go into counseling and mental health professions.
