I'm thinking about taking a psych class as one of the ss/h requirements of Pratt. I took AP Psych last year and should have gotten a 4/5 on the AP. If I got a 5, can I register for any of the other classes (even if they are level 100)? I looked at some of the classes, what exactly do the survey classes do? What are the higher level lecture classes like? Are there a lot of tests/quizzes/projects? I'm looking for a relatively easy class to start freshman year.

Also, can you register for open classes if it says “# seats Reserved for Sophomores Only”, but the class is open and has spaces?

Bump. Registration is in two weeks and I really need some advice…

You can take any upper-level class for which you have the pre-reqs. A 5 on AP Psych should give you credit for Psych 11, so you would be good for most 100-level classes to the best of my knowledge. There are some classes (Bio Bases of Behavior, for example) that require a bio background, but I think most just require Psych 11 if anything at all. The survey classes (I assume you are referring to 101-104RE?) are simply meant to give a survey of the different areas of Psychology. They are also required core classes for the Psych minor/major. I haven’t taken any of them but I hear Social Psych (104, I think?) is fairly easy. Just pick the one you’re most interested in though, as most psych classes are considered very straightforward.

If a class only has 20 seats and ACES says “20 seats reserved for sophomores only”, then you won’t be able to register for it. However, if there are more spots available than spots reserved, you may be able to register.
