So when the dust settled around the time of college acceptances, it was either Cal or UCLA for me. I ultimately chose Cal because it had the top ranked Psych program. I've always wanted to do psychology, however during my time here as a freshman, I've developed a strong interest in biology as well. Now some of you may tell me to go for IB or MCB, but those respective programs don't appeal to me as much as...... Psychobiology at UCLA. I've looked up the required courses and upper div work and it strongly appeals to me. It has the right balance between psychology and biology. I'm in crisis mode and idk what to do! Please help!

Well, I was going to suggest minoring in Bio, but I’m not sure if that even exists. Could you double major, maybe?

Some possible options:
- Apply to transfer. UCs typically only accept junior level transfers, so you’d have to apply at the start of your sophomore year. If you plan to go this route, aim to complete UCLA’s pre-reqs for your major… you can find them on assist.org (you might have to pick a CC and guess on the articulations). You’d have to keep your GPA up, and remember that priority goes to california CC students - aka not you. But if you really wanted to get in to the other program, those are the steps you’d need to take. You should also try to keep up with Berkeley requirements, on the chance things don’t go your way.

Drop out of UCB and enroll at a CC so you can transfer to UCLA. I wouldn’t suggest this route. You’d get a bit more priority in admissions, but UCLA admissions are never a sure thing and you could end up somewhere worse. Not to mention you’d have to sit through a year of CC level classes.

Minor/double major at Berkeley? I have NO idea how do-able this is and have no knowledge of either program.

Stick to just one major, but take the classes that interest you in the other subject… even if it wouldn’t get you credit for a major/minor.

Honestly, it sounds like you’re really only just discovering this field, so I’d aim for less drastic measures… definitely take a couple more bio/psych classes before you make decisions, as that could sway you in one direction or the other. While a major might seem enticing now, after you start on coursework you may decide you hate it, or that there’s something else you’d rather be doing. If you do plan to transfer to UCLA, that’s super unlikely to happen before your junior year, so you’ve got time to figure it out and try out classes in different areas.
