I am a high school student searching for internships, summer programs, and shadowing opportunities in the field of psychology. I have tried doing my own research, but the options I found were unfortunately too expensive. If any of you knows of an affordable program that would me greatly appreciated.

Hi @bubba5274 have you considered contacting your local research university? Do you have a specific field of interest in psych?

@singersdad That’s a good idea! I’d like to be a political psychologist, but that’s quite specific and I am not sure how I will find anyone

How was research expensive? I did a science fair project last year in psychology, testing how paired collaboration influences opinions on ethical issues. It takes some paperwork to do a project with human test subjects, but it really wasn’t as bad as people say it is. I generally just asked science teachers at my school to allow me to use their students in my study, and I’d have the students sign parental consent forms. I don’t know if your school does science fair at the regional level, but you should definitely consider it.

OK @bubba5274 so you want to study the psychology of politics? Are you near a research university? I would guess that type of research falls under the auspices of Social psychology. It will take some effort, but check the research interests of every prof within the distance you are willing to travel. Once you find a few profs who share your interests use EBSCO academic search complete, or psychnet, or Google scholar, to find and read their research. You may need to go to a college library to gain access to some journals. Then decide who you want to study with and write an email explaining your interest and asking if you can volunteer in the lab.

Thank you very much @Singersdad and @awakeningvenus I will take both of your advice

@bubb5274 You’re welcome! If you want some more advice on how to get started with a psychology science fair project or contact a potential mentor, feel free to PM me.

@bubba5274 Same here, if you have it narrowed down to a few names and want to discuss the choices feel free to PM.

@awakeningvenus 's ideas are very good as well. I have judged Science fairs and never been more amazed by the talent of young people. There’s just a very different vibe to academic research.

Again thank you both very much! You have really helped me and I am grateful @awakeningvenus @Singersdad
