Psychology Major --> Banking Career Path?

Hi Everyone,

I would like to ask for some advice.

My undergraduate degree was in Business/Finance, and I went on to study Human Behavior for my Master's mostly because I wanted to explore a different field and it was a subject that I wanted to be exposed to and learn more about.
At the time of enrollment, I was considering careers in market research, human resources, etc.

However, upon the completion of my Master's program this June, I came to a conclusion that I REALLY want to go back into finance and banking in particular.

I don't regret completing my Master's program, as it made me a more well-rounded person educationally and also made me realize that the field is not for me.

The problem is, I don't know how to market myself as a candidate for banks at this point. As you can see, my most recent education was in a psychology-related field, and I'm not sure what to make of it when asked during my interview except to brush it off completely...

Any advice as to how I should approach potential job openings? Thank you so much for your help in advance :)

You could always omit the Master’s degree from your resume if you think it’ll hurt you.

just spin it off as a 2year vacation before you went to work where you actually did something instead of being idle

Banking is a broad field. What about banking draws you? What kind of work do you want to do there? This is key to answering your question.

I know people in banking with varied liberal arts backgrounds as well as specific business disciplines.

Specifically, I want to become a credit analyst in commercial banking: I like working with numbers and looking through financial statements (all from my undergrad discipline). Eventually, I’m thinking about exploring the fields of risk analysis or other opportunities that may open up.

I guess I should try to avoid going into detail about how my Masters degree pertains to whatever position I’m applying for at a bank…

Thanks for your help everyone :)
