I plan on getting a masters degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology, but that’s four years away. I’m in my first quarter of college and my major is psychology. I’m debating on whether I should minor in general business or choose a minor in human resources. I see myself working in HR. The business minor at my university has required courses that give insight into a little bit of everything. I’m not sure which minor will benefit me the most…a general overview of business or only focusing on the HR aspect of business.
Well, I think it depends on your interests. If you are planning on going into HR, HR is one of those fields that doesn’t require a specific major but does often like to see majors or certificates in HR. So the HR minor might be really useful to you, and you can always take more general business classes as electives if you want.
Does your school offer a human resources concentration within the business degree? You could always consider majoring in that and then minoring in psych.
