Hi everyone,
I'm intereted in attending Chicago as a psychology major, while completing my pre-med courses. I'm worried about the apparent rigor of chicago, however. I've heard that the workload is extremely intense and that the grades are very deflated. I don't mind working a lot, but will is it extremely difficult to keep a med-school like GPA at chicago? Does anyone know what the workload for a psychology major would be like? I'm debating whether I should apply or not, because I'm scared that I'll end up with a low low GPA and not make it into any med school (I'm not aiming for a top med school, just any med school will do). Should I go to a less rigorous school?
THanks :)

a)their grades aren't deflated--everywhere else suffers from inflation.
b) if that's your worry, chicago may not be the place for you.

I've heard so many people complaining at UofC about the work load and how they think they failed their classes. But when I asked them again (recently) how they were doing, they all managed A's and B's. Jeez, by the way they talked, it seemed as if they were failing. They were surprised themselves about their grades. It's less about grades and more about experience and learning. If you keep on concentrating about it, you'll tear yourself to peices.
I agree with Sarah. If you are worried about that, then chicago isn't for you. And its not a question of deflation, it's a question of standards.

It's a valid concern, I think. Just weigh it out. If you really, really want to go to UChicago, then you're going to have to brave the lack of grade inflation (which, if you're a hard worker who'd get into UofC anyway, shouldnt be THAT horrible) - if you dont want to risk a lower gpa than otherwise, dont go. but med schools would take that into account, the fact that uchicago gpa's arent inflated, obviously, or there would be very few people going to uchicago for premed
