Psychology Self Study?

I heard that Psychology self-studying is pretty popular and I'm considering this approach.

My intended major in college is Psychology. I'm going to be a senior and I originally signed up for Psychology [not AP, we don't have AP] but AP Calculus is the same period so I had to drop it for Calc.

I'm currently taking an Abnormal Psychology course at a community college. We're learning about personality disorders and substance abuse disorders and whatnot.

I'm also very loaded with AP Classes and extra curriculars; I'm going to be holding many high office positions in various clubs and organizations.

Is it worth it to self study for Psychology? What books do you guys recommend and what specific tips can anyone give me?

Note I'm not the best test taker in the world. I got a 2 in World History, 4 in US History, and 4 in English Language.

I’m taking the normal psychology course offered at my high school as well and self-studying AP too!

As for a good book, there is a thread up top which a lot of people suggested that Barron’s is the way to go for AP psychology.

Barron’s hands down, I used it over spring break and got a five.

I read Barron’s over spring break and then the night before, and I got a 5 this year. A lot of it is really intuitive and common sense, and self-studying is definitely not a problem, even with a busy schedule.

A friend of mine self-study AP Psychology along with taking 3 AP classes and 1 Honors and playing Varsity Tennis. He uses Princeton Review and Barrons and thought he will receive a 3 or 4. However, instead, he received a 5. (While he was studying, he saw that Barrons was a much better study-guide than Princeton Review)

I’m very similar to you as far as my future plans and such. I took this test with just Barron’s this year (as a junior) and I’m waiting to receive my score. I think I got a 4 or a 5, but just be sure not to just cram on the last day if you want on a 5. Some people manage it, but lots of them end up with 3s or 4s.

Barron;s is the clear winner on this forum. I’m taking the class and the AP next year so I will definitely appreciate on any tips for the class :)

AP Psychology is a joke.
Read barrons, you’re done.

Right now, I’m planned to take AP Psychology next year as a Junior. Everyone that I’ve come across says that Barron’s a few weeks before the test will get you a 5. I reviewed the test already and it seems that most of the questions are common sense. However, if your intended major is Psychology I would definitely take it because it probably really interests you! Good luck!

I self-studied Psych this year and would recommend it, especially since your major is psychology. It’s really fun material and good to study. =)

I used Psychology by David G. Myers as a textbook and Barron’s AP prep book as a study guide.
