if one gets accepted into HSS for psychology can they transfer to MCS easily or is it a hard process? i would love it if someone can give me a quick timeline of how long it will take and if it is easy/doable or not.

HSS to MCS is pretty easy, especially psych –> bio. Take some calc and maybe intro to bio your first semester and you should have few problems in transferring. You will not be able to transfer until after your first semester, most likely, or after your first year - I am not sure what MCS’s policy is.

btw kate do you happen to know how significant essays are in cmu process? i know it sounds like a generic question but i was still wondering…

and also if i apply ed2 i will be notified by jan 15. say i don’t get in, how can i apply regular decision if the deadline is jan 1st? like how would i know in time for ed2 to plan accordingly for regular decision.

CMU often declares that they are ‘very important’ to the process. I’m not an adcom, so I can’t really say myself beyond that.

If you are planning to apply RD in the case you don’t get in ED, make sure your essay reflects your interest in multiple disciplines and then call them up after your rejection to ask that they consider your application for X, Y and Z college as well. They will likely be happy to do so.

i need another clarification…its pretty much like the other question but…

if i apply ed2, i will be notified by jan 15. in the meantime, can i apply to other schools RD? and IF (huge IF) i get in at CMU, do i just remove my app from the other RD schools i applied to.

You are encouraged to apply to other schools RD if you have an ED app at CMU. If you get in through early decision, they will ask that you pull your applications to other schools unless there is some lingering reason you may need to break your ED contract, such as financial hardship.

If you get acceptances from RD schools before you hear back from CMU, you are also not allowed to use those RD acceptances as bargaining material for your financial aid offer. You are committed to CMU, no matter what.
