Hello,
I am a returning student that just recently finished my first year of college. I am trying to narrow down on a possible major and the process has been, needless to say, daunting.
When I originally started back at college, I was fairly convinced that I was going to be a business student with a concentration in either management or marketing. I primarily chose this because I have real-life experience in retail management and believe it to be a safer, more reliable, major regarding career prospects. However, I am not the strongest math student. It has always been an area that I struggle with and I underestimated the amount of heavy math courses involved in the major (ie. economics, stats, accounting/finance etc). While I have strong communicative and organizational abilities, I worry that my weakness in math will hold me back especially when compared to business students that are much stronger in this area.
I have been considering other possibilities and I have been debating a major in psychology with a minor in business. I know that psychology tends to get a bad rap and graduate schooling is generally required, but I believe that I may be able to better excel in this field/coursework. I also would not necessary need or seek to enter into a psychology related career upon graduation, as I would be satisfied in the corporate/business environment. I know that the skills acquired by a psychology degree would be potentially desirable to employers in a various arenas. Additionally, it allows me the possibility to pursue graduate study in either business or psychology in the future. However, I worry that a psychology degree will not provide the same utility as a business degree would.
Do you have any input or advice for me?
Thank you so much!
