I need help. First of all, I'm a transfer student.

With plans of Law School, and not really showing a strong interest in any particular field, I applied as a Psychology major. However, I'm now thinking of switching to a Sociology major.

I know Berkeley's psych program is esteemed and ranked very high. Does anyone know how its Sociology program fairs? I definitely think I'm growing more interested in Sociology than in Psychology. Would it be totally unwise to switch to a perceived "easier" and lower-ranked major?

I don’t know for certain, but I believe Berkeley’s sociology program is real strong as well. There are many very well known sociologists that have served as faculty members and professors at Cal throughout the years, and I remember hearing from one of my sociology professors about how great the program is. I don’t have the time now to do it, but you can look for some sort of ranking on how good the program is.

Oh, and as for it being a wise decision to switching majors, I wouldn’t say so, even if you’re planning to go to law school. First off, you should always try to pick a major that suits you best and that you’re most interested in, no matter what. Plus, like I said previously, I believe that Sociology is a very strong program as well so there wouldn’t be that big of a drop off. If you’re more interested in Sociology, I’d go for it.
