Junior in California, and I am awaiting my SAT test results. I am taking the subject test in June and 2 more SAT's in Sep and Oct before I apply for college. I want to become a psycologist and open my own practice when I get older. Plz do not give me the top "whatever" list because i have looked at all of them. I want your personal opinion on certain schools. I will also be obtaining my Ph.D but I am open to transfering after my undergraduate degree. I don't care if I have to go OOS. Money is an issue but Financial aid and scholarships will help.

End HS with:

3.4 gpa (non-weighted w/o AP classes added)
250+ hrs community service
4yrs baseball (JV MVP)
Link Crew Club (helps freshman adapt to HS life)
Key Club (Help community)
Honors Society

What is your opinion is the not just (will I get In) but the most practical and best psychology program to attend. I was thinking University of Washington.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP IN ADAVCNE GUYS!!!

Anything? Anyone? Not to jump the gun.

It’s impressive that you’ve got a clear idea of what you’d like to be, but you could change your mind in college. I’m pretty sure I’m going premed in college, but a factor in my decisions was the overall strength of academics as a whole, not just premed.

As for schools, I don’t really know anything about psychology rankings or schools in the West, so I can’t help that much. It’ll be clearer what college would fit for you once you get your SATs back, but until then keep researching. Good luck!

alrite thank you very much. The SAT was suprising not that hard. I was worried but Im very good at english and math im alrite at. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I don’t know if its crucial for you to stay on the west coast but NYU has a fantastic psychology program.

Dartmouth, Yale, Amherst, and Vassar are schools that I believe have strong psychology programs. I don’t know if that’s up your alley though.

McGill has always been one of the top schools for psychology. It is reasonably priced, has opportunity for undergrad research.

I found the Gourman Report for psych on CC, but keep in mind that rankings can be kind of eh. Any of these programs are strong–don’t waste time on the difference between #5 and #15.

Stanford

Yale

U Penn

U Michigan AA

U Minnesota

UC Berkeley

Harvard

U Illinois UC

U Chicago

Columbia

UC San Diego

UCLA

Indiana U Bloomington

U Colorado Boulder

Carnegie Mellon

I also second McGill, because it’s an awesome school and has a notably smaller price tag.

I also want to add that psychology is such a popular field that you’ll find that more than plenty of schools have solid programs. Search for fit first, maybe.

Lol, I just re-read your post and saw that you requested we didn’t post “top ‘whatever’ list.” Oops… got overexcited because I’m possibly going into psych, too. The University of Washington sounds like a solid plan, but maybe since you’re in CA anyway, look at Berkeley?

Stanford’s psychology department is often considered to be the best in the country.

^^^With Michigan right behind them.

I highly suggest Pitt and CMU
you can go to either and study at both…they have cross registration in psych and have connections to Western Psych(a crazy hospital) and the UPMC’s
iPitt would be a match
CMU a reach…plus they both are in a wonderful city
check it out!!
