Psychology?

Is it an impacted major at Irvine, or any of the UC's for that matter? Because I'm thinking about going into it, but I feel I should declare a more obscure major to increase my chances of getting in.

Declaring an obscure major will not give you better chance of getting into UCI. That’s a myth. Of course, if you declare something like Business Admin. or Engineering, you might not get your first choice major, but you will probably get into your alternate if you are qualified enough. I doubt Psychology is impacted. Hardly seems like any Psych. classes are full. Like I said, picking a major makes no difference. As soon as you get to orientation, you can change your major anyway.

A lot of the intro to psych classes ARE full, but your major has nothing to do with your chances of admission. Beyond the few certain majors that are always difficult to get into (Engineering, nursing, business), declaring an “obscure” major won’t help since they know that the average student is likely to change their major several times. Either way, they do a holistic review.
