Just wondering. I always thought that the academies had mandatory morning PT sessions. But according to a couple people I talked to, thats not true. I wasnt exactly sure if they were "correct" and I am actually quite shocked to hear that. Can any alumni explain?

Why? Don't you want to get a Hugh Jass? ;)

There is no mandatory PT in the morning at USNA after Plebe Summer.

Each afternoon, you are expected to take part in some kind of sports activity, be it varsity, intramural (inter-company), or otherwise (powerlifting).

That said, it is surprisingly easy to get out of shape and fail the PRT's. Ask me how I know. :(

If you fail, you go on remedial PT until you pass, which is daily PT in the afternoon.

I would have hated it, but I do wish that PT had been stressed more vigorously. It's a Navy-wide problem, I'm afraid.

That said, any mid can work out (run, lift, swim, whatever) anytime he can find time, so there is no excuse, really.

remedial PT goes at around 5am
not fun

Wow. They used to do it in the afternoons back in my day.

Ask me how I know! :(

0500 is one hell of an incentive NOT to be on it!

Hey, does anyone know how many miles and the pace we should be able to run at for plebe summer?

I heard from a West Point sophomore (female) last week 5 miles at an 8 minute pace

Do you know anything about the navy plebe summer? I have received an appointment and was curious. Thanks!

There is a ton of info on that subject...just wander around the board a little. Congratulations and good luck.

For Plebe Summer, be able to run at least 3 miles at an 8-minute pace without stopping or dying when you finish.
