PT Program

What are the Stats needed to get direct entry to the PT program?

I saw that you also posted on the Ithaca College forum. My son was accepted into both Quinnipiac & Ithaca’s direct entry-level doctorate Physical Therapy program. At Quinnipiac he was accepted into the 7 year Athletic Training/Physical Therapy program. I don’t think there are Stats carved in stone for either of these programs. My son has an unweighted GPA of 3.85 (don’t know weighted but he has had all honors + 5 AP courses) and ranks 9/250 in a very good public school. He is a very hard worker and does not standardize test well at all, his scores really do not reflect his ability. Quinnipiac requires test scores so we submitted his ACT 27, Ithaca does not require test scores so we did not submit any. He got very nice Merit scholarships from both schools. He is a very well rounded student athlete (hockey & lacrosse), also plays in the band, and has volunteered at the local hospital for 4 years. Last summer he shadowed a physical therapist for 8 hours every week. He also expressed a lot of interest at both school (frequent e-mails and multiple visits). I think all of these played into his acceptances. Hard part now is deciding between the two!!! He has 5 days left to make a decision.

Quinnipiac has amazing facilities on the North Haven Campus, with a brand new medical school attached and open this fall, an outstanding community feeling, Sleeping Giant Mountain surrounding the campus, New Haven a shuttle ride away and an array of on and off campus activities in a vibrant community; Ithaca is a very nice school, but is somewhat remote and the facilities cannot compare.

Have you looked at Sacred Heart Univerisy or University of Hartford for PT? How do their programs compare to Quinnipiac?

The physical therapy program is the second most competitive program at Quinnipiac. Our average SAT score is 1150 (reading and math) and a 27 on the ACT.

krstrong…is 1150 the avg SAT score for accepted students into the PT program or overall? Any idea what what the Avg SAT is for OT?

Sorry, geeps20 the average SAT score for accepted students into the PT program is 1200. That average includes the Physician’s Assistant, Nursing, AT, PT and OT programs.

^ Where are you pulling this info from?

I work in admissions as a student worker.

^ can you find out the avg SAT for OT for me?

The average SAT for OT is also 1200. They combine Nursing, OT, PT, AT and PA for their averages.

Ok…I see what you are saying, but that doesn’t mean the avg for OT is 1200 if the combined avg for all those programs is 1200. OT is usually less than PT.

They combine them all together so we don’t have them separated. However; the PT program is more competitive.
