PUBLIC college search--help!!

Advice?

I'm looking for a school with a decent financial aid program, a good Honors program, and strength in journalism/english/communication/rhetoric courses (which is where I think my major will fall, eventually)... and I don't really have an interest in small, private LACs. I decided a long time ago that the only LAC I'll ever attend, bar Ivy League, would be Puget Sound, and anything else, no matter how sensible, feels like betrayal. Dumb I know, but humor me.

So... your opinion? Public schools? I'm already thinking of Washington State, U of Oregon, maybe U of North Carolina. Puget Sound and a couple of Ivy Leagues are on the list too :) but that's it for LACs.

How about trying out the UCs? UC Berkeley is definitely good for English and is affordable compared to most east coast LACs.

I'm a little leery of CA schools but I'll research :) How's merit-based aid?

Both Syracuse and UMiami are supposed to be good with aid.

University of Delaware, UMD.. i know UDel is expecially good with merit based aid. i think i remember hearing here that University of Missouri is awesome for journalism and one of the best (i could be wrong and confused).
